The Job
San Bernardino County's Land Use Services Department is looking for Code Enforcement Officers III ready to join a dynamic team dedicated to outstanding service, innovation, and teamwork. The Department is seeking a knowledgeable professional who will serve as a lead worker while performing a wide range of complex code enforcement work. Code Enforcement Officers are responsible for field and office work relating to housing, land use, public nuisance, vehicle, and fire hazard ordinance enforcement. This position works in the field to conduct investigations and property surveys, and to speak with property owners regarding compliance with permits and codes. Code Enforcement Officers also respond to public concerns, maintain records, reports and other evidence, and testify in civil and criminal proceedings.
Positions may be assigned to a 4/10 schedule depending on business needs.
List will be used to fill current vacancies throughout the County and new vacancies as they arise.
Positions typically report to San Bernardino, Hesperia, or Joshua Tree locations and are required to travel throughout their assigned region and throughout the County as needed. ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
Land Use Services Department, Code Enforcement administers programs designed to protect the public's safety, welfare, and property value through enforcement of San Bernardino County ordinances and State/Federal laws relating to land use, zoning, housing, public nuisances and vehicle abatement within the unincorporated areas of the county. In addition, the Fire Hazard Abatement Program conducts surveys to identify fire hazards throughout the year; the Program responds to complaints year round in the unincorporated areas and contracting Cities and Fire Districts.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Pre-Employment Process: Prior to appointment, candidate must undergo a background check, which includes fingerprinting and a medical exam.
Travel: Travel throughout San Bernardino County may be required. Employees will be required to make provisions for such transportation.
Work Schedule: Employees are subject to evening, weekend, holiday, and call-back work.
Physical: Requires frequent climbing, kneeling, crawling, lifting, and carrying of items weighing up to 25 pounds.
Certification:Must possess and maintain PC832 certification

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTThree (3) years if experience as a Code Enforcement Officer in a public sector agency, including issuing citations and investigating and interpreting code/ordinance violation.
Experience Substitution: One (1) year of experience interpreting, explaining, and enforcing policies and regulations for a public sector agency may substitute for a maximum of one (1) year of Code Enforcement Officer experience.
