Essential Duties
1. Provides thought leadership in developing and implementing university-wide strategies for AI integration in humanities teaching and research. 2. Makes complex decisions with long-term impact on curriculum development, resource allocation, and technological infrastructure. 3. Establishes and leads strategic partnerships between the Poorvu Center for Teaching and Learning, Yale Library, Whitney Humanities Center, the Yale Center for Research Computing, the Center for Digital Ethics, and academic departments. 4. Shapes and helps to disseminate policies and best practices for ethical AI implementation in humanities contexts. 5. Works with faculty to support grant writing, and with development to support fundraising initiatives, to support AI integration in the humanities Program Development & Management - Develops and oversees comprehensive programs for AI integration across humanities disciplines; Builds and maintains strategic relationships with faculty, department chairs, and university leadership; Designs and implements approaches to evaluate program effectiveness and report outcomes to campus leaders and other audiences; Supervises student workers supporting AI integration projects. Teaching & Faculty Development - Creates and delivers advanced workshops and training programs on AI applications in humanities teaching and research; Provides high-level consultations to faculty on integrating AI into research and curriculum development; Develops innovative pedagogical frameworks for AI integration in humanities courses; Ensures alignment of AI initiatives with academic goals and learning outcomes.

Position Focus:
Reporting to the Poorvu Center Executive Director, the Director of AI Initiatives in the Humanities leads Yale University's strategic integration of artificial intelligence technologies within humanities education and research. Creation of this role responds to the Yale Task Force on AI's recommendation that Yale draw on signature strengths in humanities fields as we explore ethical and societal impacts of generative AI. This leadership position applies advanced knowledge of both humanities scholarship and AI technologies to shape the future of humanities pedagogy, research methodologies, and scholarly practices. The role requires extensive cross-functional expertise, operating at the intersection of academic technology, pedagogical innovation, and humanities scholarship. The Director will have a joint appointment with the Poorvu Center for Teaching and Learning and the Library in recognition of the role's collaborative nature.
Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:
Ph.D. in a humanities discipline required. Minimum of 7 years experience, including demonstrated experience innovating with emerging technologies in humanities pedagogy, with particular interest in AI applications & their ethical implementation. Substantial experience in program development & administration within higher education & strong publication record in the Humanities
