Job Description
Job Title: Medical Laboratory Technician

Job Specialty: General Testing in Analytical Laboratory

Job Duration: 13 weeks

Shift: Evenings, 1430-2300 (5x8 Hr)

Guaranteed Hours: 40.00

Experience: 9 years of related work experience preferred

License: Medical Laboratory Technician with certification required within 6 months of hire

Certifications: ASCP, AMT, or equivalent

Must-Have: Associate Degree or completion of U.S. Military course leading to Medical Laboratory Specialist or equivalent; Bachelor's Degree in Science with applicable clinical experience

Job Description:

- Perform all levels of general testing within the analytical laboratory with a high level of technical knowledge.
- Consistently function in a self-directed manner and exhibit complex problem-solving skills.
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment, following laboratory and regulatory policies and guidelines.
- Conduct cytogenetic testing with high competency according to established protocols.
- Generate and report results for accurate diagnosis and prognosis to influence patient care.
- Demonstrate knowledge and competency in laboratory computer systems and ensure accurate and timely result reporting.
- Utilize critical thinking skills and exercise independent judgment for data correlation and interpretation.
- Compile and review laboratory information system reports to ensure timely sample processing.
- Assist with resolving unusual test orders by following up with caregivers or referring to leadership when needed.
- Actively participate in training and orientation of new associates and students.
- May be assigned lead responsibilities and participate in inspections.
- Attend meetings and forums, and participate in laboratory or hospital projects and committees.
- Responsible for operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of instruments with proper documentation of activities.
- Complete required quality control and maintenance, recognizing and documenting corrective actions.
- Acknowledge receipt of specimens and prioritize based on assessment.
- Prepare samples for off-site testing, ensuring appropriate type, container, and temperature.
- Capable of floating to different locations within specified regions per policy, potentially involving duties outside initial job requirements.
