Job Summary
Under general direction and in collaboration with the multidisciplinary Radiation Oncology team, the Pediatric Nurse Coordinator provides expert nursing care for Radiation/Oncology patients with a variety of complex treatment options. The nurse coordinator serves as a contact point for new patients, family members, referring physicians, department physicians, RTT's and other Radiation Oncology team members as well as a contact point for the coordination and facilitation of the care of the patient in specialty and procedural areas outside of Oncology. The Nurse Coordinator provides leadership for collaborative and multidisciplinary patient care with emphasis on education and continuity of patient care for the entire period of treatment and survivorship. The Nurse Coordinator is responsible for monitoring and coordinating the care of Radiation Oncology patients to ensure they reach their maximum health potential before, during and after treatment.
This position will support our Pediatric patients across the department. The position will be communicating with patients/family on behalf of the entire care team. The nurse will coordinate changes to treatment plans as delegated by the provider. The nurse coordinator will educate patient/family on any changes and document in the EHR. The Nurse Coordinator will serve as the point of contact for the patient/family and ensure that care is timely and efficient.
Specific daily responsibilities include triaging patient calls and lab results, coordinating studies and specialty referrals, notifying Providers of any upcoming orders needed, providing initial and ongoing patient education. Directing the coordination of care for the patient across disciplines, and care continuum as needed. Nurse coordinators will focus on new patient referrals, coordinating their care through multimodality treatments and ensuring they move efficiently and safely through their care journey.
This position will additionally assist with the non-Operating Room anesthesia pediatric cases within Radiation Oncology. This includes but is not limited to, pre-procedure screening/assessments; assist the Anesthesiologist and other team members during the procedure; transporting patients while under anesthesia to from Radiology scans, the procedure room, and or clinic as well as recover the patient for discharge home, admission, or return back to their inpatient room.
May also provide non-OR anesthesia care and care coordination for Adult patients if the census for pediatric patients is low in the department.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $91.20 - $118.34 (Hourly Rate).

Required Qualifications
- Minimum of five (5) years of recent RN clinical employment experience with a minimum of three (3) years of recent experience in a pediatric ambulatory clinic, hospital outpatient department that cares for Pediatric patients, PICU, Pediatric PACU or Pediatric procedural sedation.
- Experience accessing and caring directly for central access devices.
- Proficiency in placing and maintaining pediatric peripheral intravenous access.
- Proven organizational skills with the ability to accept full responsibility for a defined and delegated area and patient caseload.
- Proven ability to work effectively with physicians and other support staff.
- Excellent communication skills (written & verbal) and professional conduct.
- Interprofessional communication skills
- Computer literate (esp. MS Word, Outlook and internet use) and willingness/ability to learn all EHRs as needed.
- Excellent organizational skills, proficiency in meeting deadlines, ability to work independently and prioritize workload.
- Demonstrated clinical competence including effective leadership, teaching, and communication skills or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Health locations
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior Oncology experience
- Prior Radiation Oncology experience
- MS in Nursing with a focus in nursing practice or leadership
- CPHON certification
- BSN
- Active American Heart Association ACLS Certification
License/Certification
- Active Registered Nurse licensure in the State of California
- Active American Heart Association BLS Certification
- Active American Heart Association PALS Certification
