Sacramento Public Library is looking for adaptable, motivated, and forward-looking information professionals who supports a growth mindset. The Librarian position supports the community by working holistically and collaboratively to support their region and the organization as a whole. Librarians will actively foster community connections and find ways to create partnerships to enrich the experiences available in the region and/or branch.
Librarians should have strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills; great follow-through, the ability to work effectively in teams and small groups, a strong commitment to outreach and collaboration, familiarity with core research resources, tools, and methods in information science. The Librarian will work with the appropriate departments or persons to develop services and programs to support community-wide initiatives and identify, understand, measure, and implement those programs and services. The Librarian position will be the Librarian-in-Charge when the Branch Supervisor is not available. Librarians will be expected to participate on relevant project teams, systemwide committees, and engage in professional development activities.

Typical Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited university; No experience necessary;
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, BONDING AND/OR TESTING REQUIRED
A valid Class C California Driver's license may be required for some positions at the time of appointment.

- Works in public service area answering information and readers' advisory questions;
- Identifies and locates library materials and assists customers in locating materials;
- Assists and instructs customers in use of library resources, facilities, and policies;
- May perform copy and original cataloging and classification of library materials;
- Coordinates selection and acquisitions processes for library materials, including maintaining standing orders and serials databases and files and monitoring holds buy ratios;
- Designs and presents programs and presentations and accompanying materials;
- Assists in training staff newly assigned to work area;
- Keeps records and statistics; prepares reports;
- Keeps abreast of practices and trends in public librarianship by attending workshops and educational programs and reading periodicals and specialized literature; and recommends more efficient practices;
- Attends meetings, training and seminars; participates in various committees and team activities;
- Fills in for any subordinate position, as needed;
- Maintains positive relationships with other staff and members of the public;
- Requires regular and punctual employee presence;
- Acts as a representative of Sacramento Public Library to the public;
- May: Select new and replacement materials and perform collection management functions in assigned area;
- Perform outreach activities, including school visits, story time presentation, and contacting community organization and agencies;
- Carry out or supervisor special projects;
- Prepare schedule;
- Supervise shelvers and volunteers;
- Perform circulation functions;
- Be in charge of a department or branch during short term absence of supervisor;
- Perform simple repair and maintenance on computers and other equipment; and
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
