Description

The Chief Deputy Treasurer is responsible for balancing the daily collections and disbursements of County funds, investing funds in accordance with County policies and State statutes, managing cash flow and maintaining records. The position serves as the chief liaison between the County and banks. The position is responsible for supervision of staff as assigned.
Examples of Duties

  • Supervise and direct the daily work activities of office staff. Manage staffing and scheduling for the office. Train and support staff with departmental and customer service operations.
  • Manage internet banking.
  • Assist with the administration and interpretation of property tax laws and pertinent state statutes.
  • Facilitate the timely and accurate calculation, billing, and collection of taxes.
  • Responsible for collecting and accounting for various revenues, processing web payments, and ensuring accurate deposits into the County's bank accountings.
  • Plan and monitor investments to optimize interest earnings and maintain cash flow for operational needs.
  • Establish, monitor, and ensure reconciliation of numerous bank accounts.
  • Manage and coordinate passport operations, including accepting and processing applications
  • Ensure that proper financial records and procedures are maintained.
  • Administer collateralization of county deposits and CD investments that exceed the FDIC limit
  • Maintain the county record of unclaimed funds. Report and pay unclaimed funds to the Minnesota Department of Commerce as provided by state law.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate's or bachelor's degree in accounting, Business Administration, or closely related field.
  • Three to five years accounting, auditor-treasurer, banking, or related experience preferred.
  • Will also consider any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Passport certification through Regional Passport Agency (must obtain upon hire)

This position is regularly scheduled to work 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm. The 2025 starting salary for this position is $69,534/annually, depending on Qualifications, with career advancement to $104,354/annually.
