Wood is seeking a Senior Instrumentation & Controls Engineer - Pipelines to join its Oil, Gas & New Energies (OGNE) Americas business, focusing on instrumentation and controls engineering for oil and gas and pipeline projects. This opportunity is hybrid and is based in Calgary, AB

This role will lead a team of engineers and technologists within the pipeline projects business, ensuring compliance with engineering procedures and quality control standards. The Senior Instrumentation & Controls Engineer will be responsible for developing, reviewing, and approving I&C engineering deliverables, supporting metering and leak detection philosophies, and participating in technical reviews such as HAZOP, LOPA, and SIL. Additionally, the role involves equipment specification, procurement support, and collaboration with internal teams and suppliers.

Responsibilities

- Lead a team of engineers and technologists within the pipeline projects business
- Assure compliance with Engineering Procedures and quality control standards
- Participate in project audits (quality and technical)
- Interface with various engineering disciplines and suppliers
- Provide input to process and pipeline engineering for P&ID development
- Specify, select, and size field instrumentation (Pressure/Temperature/Flow/Level), Control Valves, on/off valves, relief valves, and control devices
- Prepare and review control deliverables such as Control Philosophy, Control Narrative, Cause and Effect diagram (or SDK), and Control System Architecture
- Develop and/or review metering philosophies and leak detection philosophies
- Participate in HAZOP, LOPA, and SIL reviews
- Prepare and check Instrument Loop diagrams and System Cabinet design/wiring
- Prepare Material Requisitions, Technical Bid Evaluations, and award recommendations for instrumentation and controls equipment
- Support the development of Control Narratives and Cause and Effect diagrams
- Prepare and review various Instrument lists (Index, I/O list, I/O assignments, Load list, etc.)
- Understand communications, network systems, SCADA, and RTUs
- Maintain frequent contact with vendors and internal staff

Expected:
- Instrumentation Technologist or Bachelor's degree in Science or Engineering from an accredited university or college
- Minimum of 8+ years of industry experience
- Understanding and familiarity with API, ASME, CSA Z662, and ISA codes and directives
- Experience in pipeline projects and knowledge of Canadian pipeline codes
- Strong problem-solving abilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Desirable:
- Registration with APEGA as a P.Eng or P.L. (Eng) is an asset
