Education Requirement: Knowledge of laboratory medicine practices, research theory, and technical personnel management generally gained by completing a Ph.D. in biomedical science with a minimum of a two-year post-doctoral training program.

Certifications:
Board-certified by appropriate certifying agency (i.e. American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics) in Clinical Cytogenetics and/or Clinical Molecular Genetics, or Laboratory Genetics and Genomics.

Must meet educational and either board-certified or board-eligible (with the expectation that boards are passed within 2 cycles).

Job Description:
Essential Functions:
- Provides scientific assessment for evaluation and implementation of relevant, state of the art clinical cytogenetic, molecular genetic, and genomic services, including the interpretative analysis of laboratory results and recommendation of other available consultative services to best facilitate patient management and treatment.
- Reviews results of cytogenetics and molecular genetic/genomic testing as appropriate by board certification. Issues and signs written interpretative test reports and oversees clinical/scientific consultation. Is responsible for supervision of conduct, evaluation, reporting and interpretation, monitoring, and quality assurance of testing in these areas.
- Coordinates facets of the internal laboratory quality control program, including proficiency and competency testing, validation studies, and instrument maintenance programs to ensure overall quality of test results and compliance with regulatory agencies.
- Collaborates in assuming responsibility for establishment, implementation, and evaluation of effectiveness of teaching, educational, and research programs in the laboratory. Participates in the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics (AMBGG) Laboratory Fellowship including provision of feedback and oversight to fellows.
- Shares responsibility for development and implementation of new cytogenetic, molecular genetic, and genomic assay development, and for clinical, research, and teaching activities of this facility.

- Analytical ability necessary to participate in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and budgets as well as review of research proposals.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to create clinical and research proposals as well as the administration of grant-funded projects.
- Interpersonal skills needed to provide effective leadership to subordinate personnel and to interact effectively with internal and external sources, including physicians, genetic counselors, nursing, research, and other hospital personnel.
