Manager, Independent Research and Development

Tyto Athene is searching for a Manager of the Independent Research and Development team. This is a pivotal role that combines technical expertise, leadership, and project management. This position is responsible for setting the technical direction, leading development efforts, and ensuring the timely and high-quality delivery of software solutions. The ideal candidate will bring innovative thinking and extensive experience across multiple platforms to guide and mentor the development team while interfacing with clients to deliver results-oriented solutions.

Responsibilities:

• Lead technical development teams, including task assignment, timeline and scope planning, and setting technical direction.
• Oversee and contribute to software development using a wide range of platforms and technologies, including .NET, Golang, Java, and cloud services like AWS and Azure.
• Solve complex technical challenges and perform design and code reviews to ensure quality and adherence to best practices.
• Interface with clients to define requirements, provide updates, and ensure satisfaction.
• Identify the necessary development stacks that align with business goals while ensuring scalability, efficiency, and maintainability.
• Mentor team members to promote professional growth and knowledge sharing.

Required:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• 15+ years of experience in software design and development, with at least 10 years in a leadership or technical lead role.
• Expertise in Object-Oriented Analysis and Design, cloud services (AWS, Azure), and design patterns.
• Hands-on experience with technologies including Linux, AWS EC2 or Azure VM, API Gateways, Typescript, Git, C#, SQL Server, .NET Core, and JavaScript frameworks such as Angular or React.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think outside the box.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to manage client relationships and lead teams effectively.
• Results-oriented mindset with a focus on delivering high-quality solutions on time.
• Adaptability to work in a hybrid technical and managerial capacity.

Location: Work is hybrid with occasional requirement to go to our Headquarters in Reston, VA.

Compensation:

• Compensation is unique to each candidate and relative to the skills and experience they bring to the position. The salary range for this position is typically $175k-$225k (adjust salary as needed). This does not guarantee a specific salary as compensation is based upon multiple factors such as education, experience, certifications, and other requirements, and may fall outside of the above-stated range.
