Position Summary

The Assistant Director for Clinical Microbiology supports the Clinical Microbiology testing operation in ECU Health Medical Center, which provides laboratory services to patients throughout the entire ECU Health system and is the only site of clinical microbiology culture testing for the ECU Health system. Maintaining the daily availability of subject matter leadership in this area of the Laboratory is critical for patient care throughout the health system. In addition to assisting oversight of daily activities in the Clinical Microbiology laboratory, the Assistant Director for Clinical Microbiology will also provide cross coverage for outward-facing clinical microbiology consultation alongside the existing Director of Clinical Microbiology (Section Head), and therefore will be the delegated source of such consultation during scheduled absences of the Director. The Assistant Director will also assume primary responsibility for all molecular microbiology testing activities that are currently in operation or in development.

Minimum Requirements
  • Education: PhD in Microbiology or closely related field required.
  • Certification: American Board of Medical Microbiology (ABMM) certification or certification eligible preferred.
  • Experience: Four (4) years of progressively responsible clinical experience preferred.

Other Information
  • 40 hours per week
  • Monday - Friday (8 am - 5 pm), must be flexible and negotiable with shift hours
  • Rotating Call with Director of Microbiology / Clinical Provider (nights, weekend rotations, and PTO coverage)
