Role Summary
The Nuuly Senior Buyer is responsible for creating an exciting and timely product assortment that meets and exceeds the customers rental needs and hits all financial and planning targets. This candidate will need to deliver the rental plan for assigned classes through the precise execution of a well-conceived merchandise strategy. They intuitively respond to customer feedback, market trends and develop action plans that drive category specific growth and increased profitability. This person is also directly responsible for the career development of their own team of Buyers. The Senior Buyer reports directly to the DMM or Head of Product.
Role Responsibilities
Merchandising
Develop a compelling assortment, based on hindsight and strategic initiatives that meet/exceed rental plan
Expand product line to enhance appeal to target market
Analyze velocity, attribute and damage reports and respond to current trends as appropriate
Ensure key fashion trends are well represented in the assortment. Test emerging trends for rental viability
Shop domestic and international market to fill voids, check on current trends and identify "chase" opportunities
Ability to distort classifications and categories to ensure positioning within the market
Responsible for managing inventory levels and flow
Develop new resources
Develop new design collaborations and manage 3rd party brand relationships
Negotiate price to ensure mark-up goals are achieved
Maintain clear vision of customer and their needs. Also develop the buying team in this area
Work with Merchandising team to develop strong story lines for the website, emails and social and any other relevant marketing channels
Organization & Analysis
Weekly: Analyze velocity, attributes, and TY/LY. Manage OTB, obsolete/excess inventory, and inventory flow.
Monthly: Lead team in reconciling receipts to ease monthly planning/buying alignment, attend meetings and offer insight into strategy around filling open receipts
Post Season: Conduct in-season and post-season analyses to better evaluate and control the business.
Clearly communicate current trends, opportunities, successes, and failures at bi-weekly business review and monthly alignment meetings
Attend own brand sample and investment reviews, buy rolls/POHO ensuring own brand buying & production teams have all commitments and purchase orders on time
Manage Buying team on daily sample management and collection of product information for style-outs, meetings, and photo shoots
Train, manage, and delegate daily activities to Buying team (including, but not limited to: purchase order management, receipt reconciliation, entering buys & attributes into TXT, email communication with own brand and 3rd party brand teams)
Help DMM/Head of Product to manage buying calendar, organize travel to market appointments and tradeshows, communicate with brands/showrooms to book appointments
Product Information
Oversee Product Information prior to Turnover and develop compelling story lines to pass to Brand Creative
Partner with merchandising team to increase productivity of merchandise
Partner with Studio Team/styling/web production to pass samples and all product information in a timely manner to hit monthly choice activation plan
Drive and understand the private label process for product development for both own brand and Nuuly collaboration opportunities. Contribute to continuous improvement in efficiencies, execution, brand/product positioning, timing, and quality
Communication
Develop sound working relationships with vendor community and internal own brand buying & production teams
Work with merchandising and marketing teams to communicate concepts and trend information
Foster a sound partnership across all business functions
Be willing and able to stand in and lead team in place of the DMM and Head of Product
Creative Development
Shop competition and inspirational stores
Read all pertinent trade, trend, consumer publications. Stay connected to current industry trends, fashion shows, design fairs, art exhibitions, and other influential cultural events
Challenge the buying team to interpret seasonal trends for all channels
Propose new vendors/brands to Nuuly buying team that are relevant and fill product needs/holes
