Description:

The Staff Manufacturing Equipment Engineer is primarily responsible for the equipment technologies used for a program. They will be the main coordinator between vendors and Tesla for driving business needs for various products and sourcing the most suitable equipment for processes. They will lead a team of equipment engineers responsible for driving OEE improvements, equipment production readiness, and KPI metrics tracking of production machines. They will drive safety buyoffs for factory compliance and safety improvements. The Staff Manufacturing Equipment Engineer will work closely with cross functional teams to improve quality, safety, first pass yield, output rate, and equipment availability.

Responsibilities
  • Define and oversee Factory Acceptance Test and Site Acceptance Test of manufacturing equipment
  • Optimize product flow and line efficiency by designing or improving tools, jigs, stations, work methods and ergonomics using the 5S methodology
  • Characterize baseline performance and capability of each system and drive actions to maintain or improve performance as measured by product quality and tool availability
  • Identify and drive continuous improvement, automation, and cost reduction programs
  • Drive process control and process development, specifically in the areas of quality and equipment capability
  • Work independently and with vendors to understand root cause of failures, propose design or component changes, and implement and validate equipment modifications
  • Utilize knowledge of electrical and mechanical assemblies to predict equipment failure modes and proactively set and establish preventative maintenance schedules
  • Perform trials through engineering change control to test the effect of equipment improvements
  • Actively use data visualization tools to quantitatively evaluate and track machine performance and create programs to improve relevant metrics
  • Drive other projects as needed by management or as business needs change


Requirements
  • Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Machatronic Engineering, or the equivalent in experience
  • 5+ years of hands-on mechanical and electrical experience in a production environment
  • Proficiency with electrical and pneumatic schematics and creation in tools like AutoCAD & EPLAN
  • Experience with SolidWorks or other 3D CAD software
  • Understanding of automation systems, mechanical engineering, robotics, PLCs, data collection systems
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively achieve positive results with multiple vendors and meeting timelines and budgets
  • Strong hands-on experience with high-volume and pilot manufacturing
  • Able to maintain organization and focus in a highly dynamic environment. Excellent communicator, both in presentations and written reports
  • Proven ability to work well with production personnel of all levels
  • Experience in leading team of engineers

      $96,000 - $198,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

      Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
