Job Description
Job Title: Nurse Manager, Emergency Department
Job Specialty: Nursing Administration
Job Duration: 13 months
Shift: Evening, 4 PM to 12 AM, 5x8 schedule
Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week
Experience: Minimum of five years in a management and/or supervisory role in the Emergency Department
License: Current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse
Certifications: BLS, ACLS, & PALS
Must-Have: Emergency Department experience

Job Description:

- Assume 24-hour responsibility for overall assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care in the Emergency Department.
- Oversee and direct the emergency department, planning, directing, leading, and evaluating nursing care.
- Foster an environment of collaboration and respect among all healthcare team members.
- Provide weekend and holiday coverage as needed.
- Develop long-term unit staffing schedules ensuring adequate daily coverage.
- Monitor unit operational performance metrics, including agency costs, vacancy, and turnover rates.
- Oversee daily workflow, staffing, orientation, training, and development of employees.
- Handle quality/performance improvement processes for the emergency department.
- Promote and support a collaborative team approach for all emergency department and trauma patients.
- Support and interpret the policies, procedures, and objectives of the institution.
- Monitor customer satisfaction scores and implement improvement plans.
- Maintain a departmental dashboard on people, service, quality, and leadership.
- Investigate and resolve patient, physician, and staff complaints/concerns.
- Maintain required competencies for self and all employees within the department.
- Collaborate with nursing leadership to establish nursing care standards and evaluate staff compliance.
- Maintain a safe and caring environment for patients, families, and staff.
- Conduct monthly meetings with staff to discuss equipment, scheduling, goals, objectives, performance metrics, and staff concerns.
- Educate and evaluate staff performance; engage in counseling, discipline, and termination processes as needed.
- Educate staff in new and existing department procedures and systems.
- Create and maintain an atmosphere of respect and courtesy toward patients, staff, and colleagues.
