The New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH) is one of the executive branch agencies of the State of New Mexico. To ensure health equity, we work with our partners to promote health and well-being to improve the health outcomes for all people in New Mexico.
The infrastructure for NMDOH expands across the state and includes one main datacenter in Santa Fe and at least 4 smaller datacenters. The server infrastructure supports nearly 100 sites, 7 facilities, and over 3ooo users.
This position serves as the IT Infrastructure Manager I for the Infrastructure, Operations, and Network (ION) bureau. The bureau is part of the Information Technology Services Division (ITSD) for the Department of Health (DOH). You will also serve as a member of the Information Technology Management Team (ITMT).
Why does the job exist?
The position exists to ensure the optimal functionality of our server infrastructure, both on premises and in the cloud. It reports directly to the ION bureau chief. You will manage the server infrastructure while keeping it highly available and performing optimally for our customers. An ideal candidate is one that has advanced datacenter experience as well as being able to provide backups and disaster recovery for the infrastructure. You will work across teams, programs, and other bureaus within ITSD to provide the infrastructure they require to do their jobs. You must have a deep understanding of the technologies at each level and be able to gauge our ability to deliver enterprise solutions for our divisions and programs. It also requires a high level of written and verbal communication skills, critical thinking skills, and technical expertise to provide a high level of services for our DOH customers.
How does it get done?
The position manages three highly skilled infrastructure staff members that will complete infrastructure projects, datacenter tasks, hold and attend infrastructure meetings, provide input on infrastructure design, monitor the infrastructure, collaborate with other teams, and ensure infrastructure availability, across the state. Advanced infrastructure and datacenter skills, the ability to manage staff, and the ability to manage infrastructure projects are critical to this position. You will assign and monitor work for the infrastructure team making sure it is completed with the highest standards. In addition, you will evaluate technology solutions and perform infrastructure upgrades, optimizations, and enhancements throughout the enterprise. Furthermore, documenting systems, requesting funding, managing the infrastructure procurement process, and reporting to upper management will be essential. Finally, you must be an advocate for security and performance standards for the entire organization.

Ideal Candidate
Extensive knowledge of server infrastructure, infrastructure hardware, and datacenter technology with the ability to make it highly available, redundant, and optimized.
Managing highly skilled infrastructure staff with the goal of developing a strong cohesive and responsive team.
Management and experience working with infrastructure technologies and software on an enterprise level.
Experience in Microsoft Windows Server Operating systems and the ability to learn additional operating systems.
Experience in the administration of Microsoft Active Directory and Azure Active Directory.
Experience and administration of solutions in an Azure cloud environment and/or other cloud solutions.
Ability to manage an enterprise level backup environment that is reliable, secure, and available for our customers.
Change management experience.
Advanced documentation and presentations skills.
Information technology purchasing and procurement experience.
Great team building and customer relationship skills.
Has an affinity to learn, understand, and improve upon business processes, goals, and outcomes.
Ability to exercise broadly delegated authority for planning, directing, coordinating, administering, and executing routine and complex technical solutions.
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS), Information Technology, Engineering, or similar technical degree and six (6) years of experience in systems administration. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling ten (10) years may substitute for the required education and experience. At least two (2) years of which must be leading/supervising a systems administration team.

Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some travel is required, and you must have the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Work will often be done in a datacenter environment and will require secure access to infrastructure hardware. The position is required to respond to NMDOH staff and management during critical events, disasters, or emergencies.
