The Global Head of Consumer Compliance & Market Conduct Risk will be a key part of the Global Compliance team with a focus on leading the further development and ongoing oversight of a global consumer compliance and market conduct risk management framework. The individual will provide leadership on regulatory consumer compliance and market conduct risks and develop frameworks for regulatory compliance risk mitigation across all consumer product design and development and distribution channels including agency, face to face, telemarketing and digital.

As part of the framework, focus includes the development of key risk metrics dashboards, ongoing monitoring and identification of opportunities for implementation of automated controls. The role will also monitor regulatory developments in consumer protection and the use of emerging technology across the business including artificial intelligence.

The individual will be dynamic, business and solutions oriented and have experience in consumer compliance and market conduct risk management. A continuous improvement mindset with the ability to understand regulatory requirements and overlay regulatory controls effectively into business processes. They will be able to effectively liaise with regional and local compliance teams as well as collaboratively interface with areas in the business.

The role will report to the Chief Compliance Officer, Global Compliance.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement an updated consumer compliance and market conduct risk framework globally which includes working with other functional areas, including IT and operations to 'build in' controls into processes where efficient and effective.
  • Activities include, but are not limited to:
    • identification of key market conduct and consumer related risks in various jurisdictions;
    • review of operational end to end process flows to identify key risk areas and controls;
    • working with local and regional legal and compliance teams on distribution arrangements;
    • establishment of consumer compliance key risk indicators and ongoing monitoring of metrics relating to key market conduct risks; and
    • testing the risk management frameworks, and production of reports that assist business owners in effectively managing their market conduct and consumer compliance risks.
  • Work closely with the Global Head of Compliance Assurance in keeping the market conduct risks and controls up to date as part of the overall Compliance Risk Management framework and in reviewing assurance reviews and identifying opportunities for control strengthening and efficiency
  • Work with the Fraud Investigation Unit and relevant Business Unit's legal and compliance and business personnel on matters relating to sales related market conduct risks, particularly in digital, telemarketing, face to face and agency sales models
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with all stakeholders to ensure that review findings and test results are communicated and remediated in a timely manner
  • Represent Compliance at consumer, market conduct, digital, emerging technology and artificial intelligence committees and working groups globally
  • Keep up to date from industry and regulatory forums, particularly in relation to consumer protection enforcement proceedings, new regulations


Qualifications

  • 8+ years experience in Legal or Compliance, preferably working in insurance in a mature consumer and market conduct risk jurisdiction
  • Either legal qualifications or well developed ability to understand insurance regulations, how they impact consumer end to end business processes; and the identification of consumer compliance and market conduct risks
  • Strong relationship management skills, including the ability to work with all levels across the business
  • Ability to understand and effectively manage in different cultural and regulatory regimes
  • Effective time management skills, with the ability to produce high quality output and meet tight deadlines
  • Problem solving, analysis and reporting skills. Ability to exercise sound judgement, balance risk and practicality to determine appropriate actions/ solutions.

The pay range for the role is $180,000-$230,000. The specific offer will depend on an applicant's skills and other factors.
