Superintendent Position:
The superintendent serves in a pivotal leadership position, responsible for implementing the Board's vision and ensuring the success of all its students and staff. This position offers a unique opportunity to lead in a community rich with history, multiculturalism, and a steadfast commitment to educational excellence. The leader of our District must have the skills and temperament to lead with the head, heart, and great integrity, as well as possess a passion for educational excellence and a commitment to community engagement. Salary Range: $170 - $230K plus benefits

Minimum Qualifications: Master's Degree from an accredited institution with the ability to hold a NM Administrative License, 5 years teaching (K-12) experience, and 10 years combined school and district-charter based administrative experience (K-12). A proven track record of great integrity and commitment to the ethics required of a public school leader in New Mexico. New Mexico Code of Ethical Responsibility

Preferred Qualifications: Terminal Degree in education, 5 years teaching (K-12) experience in a public school setting,10 years of combined public school administrative experience as a principal and district and/or charter school leader. Experienced in working with labor unions and adhering to collective bargaining agreements. Previous experience in NM schools, bilingual, and working in culturally diverse communities.

Specific Qualities/ Experience/ Skills: (Note: It is recognized that applicants may not possess all of the items listed):
  • Possess a working knowledge and experience in working with a Board of Education or other governing entity to implement its vision and strategic direction.
  • A commitment to collaboration with the Board of Education and its district's internal and external constituents.
  • Possess the skills and knowledge to present the Board with a balanced budget, ballot initiatives, and other key recommendations for its consideration.
  • Ability to perform duties in compliance with all Board of Education policies, State, and Federal statutes and regulations and other applicable requirements, as well as the ability to develop administrative regulations as appropriate.
  • A knowledge of curriculum and instruction with a demonstrated ability to drive improved educational outcomes, with a commitment to all students having an opportunity for success.
  • Demonstrated experience in data-driven decision making, continuous improvement practices, and recognition of the importance of the relational aspect of the work (the balance of head and the heart as an educational leader).
  • An understanding and commitment to the importance of programs which incorporate, STEAM, STEM, Visual and Performing Arts, Career Technical Education, Bilingual Education, Computer Science, internships, athletics, activities, etc. in educating well rounded students who will become contributing members of our society.
  • Experience working collaboratively with local, state, and federal governmental entities as well as serving as an advocate for the SFPS.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of organizational development and functions and make adjustments to ensure effective operations throughout the District.
  • Possess a working knowledge of and experience with New Mexico school business finance and operations and demonstrated ability to be an effective steward of the District's resources.
  • Experience in working on and/or passing bond, mill levy, and other ballot initiatives.
  • Experience in human resource management including hiring, assignment, supervision, discipline, termination and discharge of employees.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, motivate employees, provide positive supervision, and ensure organizational systems alignment.
  • Experience with collective bargaining, negotiations, implementing a collective bargaining agreement, and establishing/maintaining positive relationships with labor unions.
  • Ability to maintain high morale and collegiality as an integral part of the SFPS culture.
  • Experience and knowledge of the cultural diversity and social political context of Santa Fe County and New Mexico. Will be able to demonstrate a deep respect for its residents.
  • Effective interpersonal relationship skills.
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written) and commitment to inform, listen, and openly share information with diverse constituents including but not limited to: media, families, staff, community partners, and others as needed.
  • Ability to integrate the use of technological programs, devices, and strategies as part of its ability to complete its job function.
