The Environmental Health & Safety Specialist will coordinate and aid in the execution of all environmental health and safety activities across all our warehouse sites. This is a hands-on role with a focus on regulatory and risk management, monitoring, and measurement of safety performance. Your role will be to drive a culture of safety accountability throughout the organization through coaching, training and supporting team members. This person must have the ability to assess workplace hazards, determine risks, and provide solutions in an effective, timely, and cost-effective manner. This role will ensure the organization complies with all current safety regulations and that all employees are aware of safety requirements and are prepared to follow safety procedures.

Essential Functions:
Governance & Policy:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive Safety Program that integrates all aspects of people, processes, and tools to ensure a cohesive approach to workplace safety.
- Develop and oversee the upkeep of a comprehensive Safety Manual.
- Advocate and support the development of health and safety policies and ensure alignment with changes to the company's Safety Manual.
- Ensure each site Safety Committee meets regularly as defined by our safety governance plan. Be an active member on those committees to help site managers drive environmental health and safety actions and educate committee team members.
- Primary point of contact for all external safety agencies (OSHA, FD, Board of Health, etc.), ensuring compliance and effective communication.
- Keep current on changes to the regulatory environment, communicate important updates effectively, and facilitate adjustments to compliance processes in response to new or amended regulations.
- Define and track safety KPIs and collaborate with key stakeholders to drive necessary actions based on metrics.
- Manage the preparation and submission of OSHA reports while maintaining accurate logs.
- Promote a culture of safety and drive continuous improvement in safety practices across the organization.
Operations:
- Implement, manage, and monitor safety programs, policies, and procedures that comply with OSHA, DOT, and other applicable requirements.
- Evaluate work areas and equipment for compliance with organizational procedures and regulatory guidelines by conducting regular inspections and audits to identify unsafe conditions and implement corrective actions. This includes servicing material handling equipment, maintaining various buildings, and procuring supplies to support a safety culture.
- Manage the selection, maintenance, and distribution of safety equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE) to ensure that all safety standards are met.
- Maintain and track records related to OSHA requirements, including OSHA 300 & 301 Logs for all facilities, to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Utilize identified metrics, established internal controls, and auditing systems to identify, detect, and correct noncompliance issues across operations.
- Coordinate, track, and document accidents, facilitate investigations to determine root causes, and recommend changes to policies or processes to prevent future incidents. Additionally, assist in facilitating the Worker's Compensation process.
- Encourage and support the recognition of employee achievements and contributions to foster a positive safety culture.
Training:
- Outline and implement training programs to educate and inform the workforce on work safety, environmental safety, and accident prevention regulations and procedures.
- Develop and distribute educational materials, including videos, guides, and posters, to support training initiatives and enhance safety awareness.
- Coordinate and oversee annual training programs and certification processes to ensure employees meet required safety standards.
- Coordinate First Aid Trainings as needed, including Basic First Aid & AED Training certifications, while retaining and tracking appropriate records related to material handling equipment certifications for all associates.
- Respond promptly and effectively to accidents and incidents, ensuring proper procedures are followed and the situation is addressed efficiently.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Associate degree preferred.
- 8+ years of industry safety experience.
- Management of a warehouse safety program required.
- Background in warehouse operations required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
- Proficient Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PPT, etc.) skills.
- OSHA Certified required.
- 25% Travel required.
- Experience with OSHA, DOT and EPA regulations and local equivalents and their application to Site operations. Professional certifications in SH&E related fields are considered beneficial and may include ASP, CSP, GSP, CIH, MSP and or CSD.
- MHE Certified Trainer preferred.
