Essential Duties

1. Manages all aspects of designated budget and financial management services portfolios. Serves as the primary contact and escalation point for all budget and financial management issues for designated portfolios. 2. Executes implementation of major strategic financial planning and analysis projects within designated portfolios, assembling and directing cross-departmental project teams. 3. Develops and maintains deep knowledge of both Yale finance and budgeting processes and applicable federal, state and university policies and procedures and the business of designated portfolios and associated leadership to provide relevant, strategic and value-add budget and financial management services. 4. Acts as a change agent to refine budget and financial management processes in order to achieve simplicity, speed and quality for both Yale's Financial Planning and Analysis department and administrative and academic departments. 5. Manages the development and monitoring of detailed budgets across the portfolio; ensures maintenance of budgets in university systems. Manages the preparation and analysis of financial data and reports. 6. Creates and updates comprehensive long-range financial plan(s) across that entire area. Prepares all-funds budgets operating and capital budgets, analyzes financial activities and performance against budget. 7. Leads analysis and interpretation of highly complex data analyses; communicates trends; identifies deficiencies in business operations and recommends process and system changes and training needs. Assesses potential internal control issues and recommends solutions. 8. Manages financial analyst staff. 9. May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration and six years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Position Focus:

Reporting to the Director of Financial Operations and Compliance in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS) Dean's Office this position leads and manages a team of financial analysts and assistants. This position provides financial management services to the FAS Dean's Office, the Lead Administrators and Business Operations Managers in the FAS Academic Depts and the Graduate School by supporting them in developing annual budgets and current year forecasts, reviewing year-end results and completing Financial Management Checklists. The FAS consists of 5040 departments and programs that span the divisions of the Humanities, Social Science, and Science.

Provide detailed guidance to FAS department business offices prior to budget, forecast, and year-end cycles; highlighting primary responsibilities, changes from the prior year, and key deadlines. Assist FAS departments in preparation for year-end by reviewing critical areas, including but not limited to suspense, assets and liabilities, and account balances.

For budgets, forecasts and year-end results, coordinates and reviews input from all FAS departments and compiles data into one clear and concise report for review by the Sr. Director., Completes YBT Institutional Plan, drafts Budget Office narratives for review by Sr. Director and analyzes results for FAS Dean and Sr. Director. Tracks all requests for additional FTEs from the FAS Departments and Graduate School.

Monitors Indirect Cost Income including building and analyzing budgets and forecasts. Reconciles accounts and calculates transfer amounts for Graduate School Financial Aid Office. Prepares long-range plans and provides ad hoc analysis and research as requested by the FAS Dean's Office and departments. Implements financial directives from the FAS Dean's Office and Controller's Office/Business Operations. Participates in University-wide initiatives

Required Skill/Ability 1:

Proven ability to understand and analyze accounting for complex financial transactions. Demonstrated experience leading and managing a team.

Required Skill/Ability 2:

Strong and demonstrated skills in MS Excel and other financial reporting tools. The ability to research and answer questions (data-mining) by manipulating, synthesizing and analyzing the underlying data.

Required Skill/Ability 4:
