The project finance team comprises approximately 70 individuals who actively originate, structure, and execute debt project financing transactions. Project finance transactions include bank loan arranging, senior notes placement or bookrunning, institutional loan bookrunning, and project finance advisory services. Transactions often also involve interest rate and currency derivatives. The team works closely with dedicated partners in MUFG's debt capital markets and global markets teams to seamlessly deliver debt financing and risk management solutions for clients across markets.

We are seeking a dynamic, thoughtful and collaborative professional to join our Project Finance Team as Vice President, covering North American Power markets. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in project finance, with a focus on North American renewable and power asset class. This role requires strong analytical skill both quantitative and qualitative, logical thinking and writing ability, good understanding about the industry and finance market dynamics, and ability to communicate well with relevant parties. .

The typical base pay range for this role is between $180K - $270K depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location. This role may also be eligible for certain discretionary performance-based bonus and/or incentive compensation. Key Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the origination and execution of debt project financing transactions, working closely with Managing Directors and Directors.
- Contribute to identify and review new business opportunities, leading the process of screening new deals with senior management for approval.
- Contribute to establish client relationships and work with clients regularly, including attending in-person client meetings.
- Lead the development of business screening memorandum to screen new transactions working with associates and analysts.
- Lead all aspects of transaction due diligence working with associates / analysts. It includes: assessing commercial, structural and legal risks reviewing project contracts and legal memorandum; ; assessing market risks reviewing market studies; assessing technical risks reviewing engineering reports; assessing environmental and social risks, conducting cashflow analysis by developing and using financial model; and assessing sponsor and counter-partis credit risks reviewing financial statements;.
- Lead day to day execution process of mandated transactions seeking necessary guidance from Managing Directors/ Directors.
- Evaluate, understand, mitigate, and articulate risks associated with project financing transactions based on the due diligence. Use balanced and good judgements on the matters required to execute transactions, while seeking guidance from Managing Directors / Director on the matters that require their judgements.
- Advise clients on matters pertaining to commercial and financial structure, and operating requirements in order to achieve suitability for non-recourse debt financing that meets client objectives.
- Perform credit ratings analysis and assist in obtaining credit ratings for transactions involving debt capital markets.
- Lead developing, reviewing, analyzing, and negotiating term sheets and financing documentation while seeking guidance from Managing Directors / Directors as needed.
- Lead the development of internal credit memo summarizing and articulating: commercial rational; key risks and mitigants; cashflow analysis; project contracts analysis; and counterparty credit analysis; and other key aspects the bank should be aware in executing transactions, working with associates and analysts.
- Lead the development of financing transaction marketing materials, including rating agency presentations, lender and investor presentations, and information memoranda.
- Own and manage processes required for compliance and execution, including profitability analysis, committee approvals, legal due diligence, KYC, and closing checklists.
- Deliver seamless transaction execution with limited oversight in all respects, including origination, diligence, analysis, structuring, approvals, closing, syndication, and liaising with various relevant internal and external partners.
- Serve as a control and audit function for internal and external work product.
- Provide mentorship and training to Associates and Analysts.
- Act as a role model for colleagues and junior staff; be the embodiment of MUFG's client-centric culture.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Engineering, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of work experience (typically 7+) in the financial services industry; preferably in project finance, with full involvement in marketing, execution, due diligence, documentation, credit analysis, and credit administration, managing approval requirements and processes, and effectively interacting with clients.
- Familiarity with the "big picture", anticipating workflow rather than acting reactively.
- Proactive, resourceful self-starter capable of rapidly learning new systems and processes and working effectively in a team environment.
- Strong analytical skills both quantitative and qualitative.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong capability to logically assess, summarize and articulate all aspects of the risks and make balanced judgements.
- Strong work ethic and ability to pay careful attention.
- Capacity to consistently communicate professionally, tactfully, and effectively with clients, third-party advisors, and colleagues.
- Demonstrated ability to work under pressure in a high-intensity environment and effectively manage/prioritize and deliver on multiple streams of workflow while maintaining a high degree of attention to detail and accuracy in all respects.
- Structuring and negotiating skills; well-versed in credit documentation.
- Advanced financial modeling and cash flow analysis experience.
- Understanding of key products (Loans, Bonds, Interest Rates Swap, and Foreign Exchange).
