Sourcing manager to be responsible for the company's end to end sourcing of products and services essential for our operations. In addition, the individual will be responsible for all phases of sourcing that require the skills necessary to identify cost saving opportunities, create competitive environments, creatively negotiate, generate contracts to assure seamless availability of all products to support the company objectives. Objectives are focused on generating advantaged economics, improving service levels (quality / delivery), ensuring supply continuity, and delivering meaningful innovation and technology.Develop, drive, and own the SSB global sourcing strategy for the applicable commodities, ensuring a rigorous approach that incorporates best practices, key stakeholder alignment and successful implementation across the SSB network (40+ locations). Objectives are focused on generating advantaged economics, improving service levels (quality / delivery), ensuring supply continuity, and delivering meaningful innovation and technology.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets.
  • Manage procurement and sourcing policies and activities, including overseeing specific contracts.
  • Develop sourcing strategies using rigorous analytical methods, e.g., benchmarking, cost modeling, sensitivity analysis, global competitive market testing, end-to-end value chain TCO (Total Cost Ownership) analysis, VA/VE (Value-added/Value Engineering), make/buy evaluation, etc.

Take a proactive leadership role in identifying mid-to-long term risks to supply; develop a risk mitigation strategy including second/alternative source solutions
  • Take overall responsibility for the strategic sourcing management goals of the company and implement action items to ensure that those goals are achieved
  • Manage and mentor staff encouraging professional growth & development
  • Responsible for negotiations for best possible cost service guarantee and develop "win-win" strategies that achieve sustainable relationships with suppliers
  • Evaluate supplier core competencies and competitive positioning using industry cost models
  • Implement supplier agreements/contracts when beneficial by working with cross-functional stakeholders and suppliers to reach agreement on contract terms and conditions
  • Research and anticipate shifts in the negotiating power of suppliers
  • Analyze industry trends and evolving technology to proactively identify supply base issues to minimize risk, protect continuity of supply, and utilize emerging opportunities
  • Maintain and develop supplier relationships (trade shows, supplier meetings, conferences, etc.).
  • Participate in establishing short-term and long-range planning and budget development of the company to support strategic business goals.
  • Develop a supplier management program with key suppliers including metrics, performance goals and improvement initiatives.
  • Establishes purchasing policies and ensures compliance within the department.
  • Continuously improve productivity and efficiency of processes throughout the operational organization.
  • Lead department to develop forecasts for future demand and place orders in a timely fashion based upon vendor lead-time.
  • Develop and implement sourcing and supplier selection strategy domestically and internationally.
  • Excess and Obsolescence management.

Support supplier New Product Introduction (NPI) process to ensure 100% supplier readiness at launch
Actively participate in NPI process and meet commitments for supplier readiness process requirements from strategic


  • Create, implement, and own the SSB global sourcing strategies for the applicable commodities:
  • Ensure the commodity strategies support and deliver against the business objectives and are aligned with key stakeholders (Brands, Manufacturing, Logistics, Planning, R&D/Innovation);
  • Develop the commodity strategies using rigorous analytical methods, e.g., benchmarking, cost modeling, sensitivity analysis, global competitive market testing, end-to-end value chain TCO (Total Cost Ownership) analysis, VA/VE (Value-added/Value Engineering), make/buy evaluation, etc. Implement and lead cross-functional / cross-brand commodity councils for the development and alignment of the strategies.
  • Develop and maintain a deep expertise of the applicable commodities' value chains (e.g., industry trends, best practices, key technical understanding, tier 2 commodities, etc.)
  • Take a proactive leadership role in identifying mid-to-long term risks to supply; develop a risk mitigation strategy including second/alternative source solutions
  • Investigate new sources and markets for products within the applicable commodities that represent new technologies and price and/or feature advantages.
  • Drive the execution of the strategies through implementation across the SSB and supplier network, leveraging/coordinating with the Sourcing Operations and Supply Planning teams
  • Establish targets and goals and track performance (for example: strategy execution, supplier score-cards)
  • Manage applicable commodity supplier relationships to deliver advantaged economics, drive superior quality & service, generate innovation, and mitigate risk:
  • Negotiate Supply Agreements to terms favorable for SSB along all key performance dimensions
  • Define supplier KPIs to measure supplier performance
  • Establish and lead supplier Quarterly Business Review process with key suppliers
  • Work directly with suppliers and SSB Advanced Technology team to identify and develop innovative products
  • Establish and lead supplier Quarterly Business Review process with key suppliers

  • Perform Supplier Technology Assessments on all new technologies within the applicable commodities
  • Actively participate in NPI process and meet commitments for supplier readiness process requirements from strategic sourcing

Ensure the sourcing strategies support and deliver against the business objectives and are aligned with key stakeholders
Manage supplier relationships to deliver advantaged economics, drive superior quality & service, generate innovation, and mitigate risk.
Oversee staffing/recruiting/training /coaching of direct reports including performance reviews

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's Degree and at least five (5) years of work experience and training or 10+ years of relevant work experience and training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Develop and maintain cost & capacity models for assigned commodities. Use models as a predictive tool for cost/pricing/delivery.
  • Utilize financial and sensitivity analysis to develop make vs. buy and cost/benefit recommendations
  • Demonstrated success in negotiating and managing long term supply agreements
  • Experience leading other materials-management / sourcing professionals (directly or indirectly)
  • Experience in developing and fostering effective supplier relationships
  • Buying experience in steel-related or foam-related commodity areas is highly desirable
  • Must be proficient in MS Office and have strong experience using MS Excel and MS PowerPoint
  • Strong analytical background & experience with advanced analytics highly beneficial
  • E-procurement experience a plus
