Why does the job exist?
This position will manage, direct, and supervise the overall day-to-day operation of the eight (8) Northwest Region Parks to ensure they are operated safely, efficiently, and in accordance with applicable established laws, rules, policies, guidelines, standards and directives. In addition, this position contributes by serving as the conduit through which information flows between the field and the Santa Fe Office (SFO), and vice versa, and assists with the development and implementation of the agency's Mission, strategies, plans, programs goals and initiatives.
How does it get done?
Oversee the operations, management and administration of Northwest Region parks; provide effective personnel management of 4 park superintendents or park managers; provide a fiscal and financial accountability for Northwest Region office and park operations; track inventory of all sites; oversight and tracking of 11 program budgets; effectively administer and support SPD Programs (inmate, volunteer, interpretive, boating, law enforcement), regional communications and community relations.
Who are the customers?
Internal and external customers, visitors throughout the state of New Mexico and surrounding states who are campers, hikers, and boaters that come to visit the park for a variety of reasons. Local community businesses in surrounding areas of the park.
Ideal Candidate
A Bachelor's Degree in any field of study from an accredited college or university and ten (10) years of professional level experience with a light strategic impact directly related to the purpose of the position defined by the agency at the time of recruitment.
-The ideal candidate will have college and/or graduate school work in Park Administration or Natural Resources studies.
- The ideal candidate will have experience with customer service and staff management in excess of 10 years.
- The ideal candidate will be willing to travel within their assigned region frequently to work with team managers.
- The ideal candidate will have experience in a park, museum or similar setting
- The ideal candidate will have experience with facilities management
Minimum Qualification
A Bachelor's degree in any field of study from an accredited college or university and eight (8) years of professional level experience with a light strategic impact directly related to the purpose of the position defined by the agency at the time of recruitment. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling twelve (12) years may substitute for the required education and experience. A hiring agency will designate a portion of the required experience to include management, supervisory and/or specialized experience. Any required licensure, certification or registration shall be defined at the time of recruitment and will be in addition to the above requirements.

Employment Requirements
- State of NM Drivers License.
- Defensive Driving certification within six months from the date of hire.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage.
Work is performed in the office and outdoors. Frequent weekends, holidays and extended work hours may be required. Frequent outdoor work, may experience extremes in weather. Must be able to work under stressful conditions to include completing multiple tasks under time constraints.
