General Description
Under the supervision of the Director of Adult Education, the Assistant Director plans, supports and supervises instruction; manages schedules of classes and documentation of personnel assignments; works with faculty, curriculum specialists and counseling staff to support instruction and student advisement; and assists in promoting adult education and documenting its impact on adult learners; building connections with the CUHSD community; and building pathways for adult learners with local community colleges, employers and other adult schools.

Responsibilities Include

Adult Education Program Coordination
  • Works with the local member institutions of the regional consortium for adult education to facilitate student transitions to post-secondary education and careers.
  • Works collaboratively with the secondary school sites and members of the regional consortium for adult education, community colleges and other adult schools, to facilitate programs and student success.
  • Assists in the organization of course offerings and in the preparation of the course schedules.
  • Responsible for compliance with federal, state, and district mandated accountability requirements for adult education programs.
  • Schedules and coordinates appropriate assessments in all programs; works with classified staff to manage varied assessment processes including a regular schedule of student intake.
  • Designs and provides leadership in the evaluation of the Adult Education program and enlists the support of his/her subordinates in an effort to continually improve the quality of the program.
  • Collects, analyzes, and reports relevant data about students and their learning and works with staff to make recommendations and plans about program, instruction and professional development.
  • Demonstrates initiative in recognizing potential improvement and takes appropriate action.
  • Assists and organizes recruitment and the recommendation of qualified adult education certificated personnel.
  • Assists in facilities management and technology needs of the school.
  • Remains well-informed of trends, technology, best practices, legislative changes and legal issues in assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Keeps current with emerging developments in adult educational programs through participation in regional and statewide adult education committees and professional development.

Management and Evaluation
  • Assists as directed in the employment, processing, credentialing, onboarding and payroll timekeeping for adult school teachers.
  • Under the supervision of the Director, evaluates personnel as assigned.
  • Observes class lessons and provides feedback and performance evaluations for staff.
  • Assumes responsibility for state and federally mandated adult education accountability data collection, analysis and reporting for the school and the District.
  • Works closely with the Director and other school and district staff to capture data about students, their goals and their learning; analyzes data and works with staff to use data to plan programs, inform instruction and professional development, and report, connect, and collaborate with community partners

Represents the director during the director's absence from the school.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:
  • Must possess appropriate administrative services credential or be enrolled in administrative credential program within six months.
  • Must have three (3) years of experience in an adult education environment or its equivalent.
  • Must have knowledge of data systems required by federal adult education programs, adult basic education and adult secondary education.
  • Master's degree is desired.
  • Must possess a valid California Driver's license.

  • Ability to:
    • Communicate well, both orally and in writing, with staff, administrators, managers, vendors and the community.
    • Manage multiple tasks concurrently.
    • Plan and implement projects, prepare reports, etc.
    • Identify and set priorities for work assigned and meet required deadlines.
