Position Summary:

The Controller plays a pivotal role in safeguarding the financial integrity of the organization. This individual is responsible for overseeing the accuracy and transparency of the company's financial data, the preparation of financial reports, the management of the accounting systems and records, and ensuring adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). The Controller reports directly to the CFO and collaborates closely with cross-functional teams to drive financial excellence and strategic decision-making.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Financial Reporting & Analysis: Develop, enhance, and distribute monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, forecasts, and budgets. Provide insightful analysis to inform decision-making at the executive level.
  • Accounting Operations: Lead and manage the day-to-day activities of the accounting department to ensure the accurate and timely preparation of financial statements, month-end closings, and compliance with internal controls.
  • Inventory & Asset Management: Oversee the accuracy and integrity of inventory, fixed assets, and related records. Manage the general ledger account reconciliation and ensure proper accounting of all transactions.
  • Debt & Compliance Management: Prepare monthly borrowing base certificates, monitor debt levels, ensure timely debt payments, and enforce compliance with debt covenants.
  • Internal Controls & Safeguarding Assets: Establish, maintain, and enforce strong internal controls to safeguard company assets, ensuring the timely and accurate recording of financial transactions.
  • Audit Coordination: Lead the coordination and preparation for external audits, including the corporate annual financial report, 401k plan audit, and insurance audit.
  • Project & Capital Expenditure Analysis: Provide in-depth financial analysis and guidance on special projects, capital expenditures, and strategic initiatives.
  • Tax Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant local, state, and federal government reporting requirements, including tax filings.
  • External Relationships: Serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors, tax accountants, financial institutions, insurance providers, and vendors.
  • Team Leadership & Development: Assess, hire, train, and mentor accounting staff to foster a high-performing team. Provide guidance and support for professional development, performance evaluations, and career progression.

  • Qualifications:

    Required:

      • Experience: A minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in accounting/finance, with at least 5 years in a controllership or leadership role. Previous experience working in a private equity-backed company, with a deep understanding of the financial complexities, performance metrics, and reporting requirements specific to private equity ownership. Ability to navigate the fast-paced, results-driven environment while ensuring compliance and driving value creation.
      • Technical Skills: Advanced technical accounting expertise and financial analysis capabilities. Proficiency in NetSuite is essential. Experience with multi-state sales tax and payroll processing.
      • Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities, with a focus on identifying opportunities for operational efficiency and risk mitigation.
      • Communication Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
      • Organizational Skills: Superior time management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
      • Team Development: Demonstrates strong leadership and judgment in assessing and hiring top-tier talent for the Accounting team. Responsible for fostering a culture of excellence by managing, mentoring, and developing a high-performing team, ensuring ongoing professional growth, skill enhancement, and alignment with organizational goals.
      • Confidentiality: Proven ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information with discretion.
      • Technical Proficiency: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).

    Preferred:

      • Educational Background: Master of Business Administration (MBA)
      • Professional Certifications: CPA (Certified Public Accountant) designation
      • Technical Proficiency: Experience with financial modeling, forecasting, and budgeting software.
