Description

Manages the 50 million gallons per day wastewater treatment facility operations.

Examples of Duties

• Plans, manages, and implements the wastewater treatment operations, to optimize efficiency and minimize costs.
• Oversees the division's staff, i.e. responsible for hiring, promotions, work assignments, training, discipline and performance appraisals for the wastewater treatment facility's staff, i.e. shift supervisors, their staffs and other reporting personnel.
• Reviews daily and monthly operational reports to evaluate the plant performance, makes appropriate process control adjustments and oversees and participates in the preparation of the discharge monitoring report and other reports for management and in compliance with regulations.
• Responsible for the division's budget preparation and control and for the requisitions of parts, materials and equipment necessary for the facility.
• Is responsible for enforcing the plant safety program and for the plant's records on operations, compliance and the like.
• Makes inspections to determine the efficiency of plant operations, the cleanliness and level of maintenance and takes appropriate corrective measures.
• Assists management in long-range planning.
• Other duties as requested.

Typical Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science or related field and at least 5 years managerial or supervisory experience in wastewater treatment operations
• Thorough knowledge of local and state regulations governing wastewater treatment operations, to include air pollution monitoring

Licenses and/or Certifications:

• VA Wastewater Treatment Operator I certification

Knowledge:

• Thorough knowledge of wastewater treatment methods, practices and related equipment as well as knowledge of what pertains to the plant electrical and instrumentation equipment

Skills:

• Organization, time-management skills, managerial skills, communication and computer skills

Abilities:

• Ability to deal with all levels of employees

Work Environment:

• Work is primarily performed indoors but is exposed to outside temperamental changes (treatment plant) or extreme noise, odors, heights, dust or fumes.
