Job Description

SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
To provide evaluation of medical needs of all psychiatric patients on Child & Adolescent Inpatient (CAPIS) units, OPD and CPEP.

In this position, Provider collaborates with Pediatrician and Medical Director of the Behavioral Health Medical Services, Liaison with Director of Inpatient Pediatrics for health care assessment. Identifies, diagnoses, and treats human response for actual and potential health care problems for individuals and families. Provides such services as case finding, health counseling, planning, implementation, and evaluation of primary health care; provision of care supportive to or restorative to life and wellbeing.
  • Collaborates with Pediatrician. Responsible for management of acute chronic/medical problems on the CAPIS units inclusive of treatment plan/ discharge planning; Completion of physical exams, and medication reconciliation of all patients in a prompt and timely manner.
  • Follow-up of chronic problems inclusive of reviewing and/or ordering all necessary test and prescribing medications requesting subspecialty consults, facilitating transfers to pediatric medicine inpatient ward or Pediatric ICU as appropriate, accepting and providing hands-off for patients transferred to and out of the CAPIS units within the hospital.
  • Review of lab work, EKG, CXR and other diagnostic tests of all CAPIS patients, documenting in electronic medical records any abnormal findings. Assists in expediting any procedure necessary for diagnosis or aftercare.
  • Responds to Code 66/99 in Behavioral Health and participates in mock codes training. Has teaching responsibility for patient education in Department of Behavioral Health. Quarterly presentation Journal club/ CME.
  • Attendance at ward rounds/ team meetings as needed; Submission of weekly statistics regarding patient encounters; Coverage of other area as necessary when other medical providers are out sick or is on vacation.


  • Minimum Qualifications
    1. A valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse issued by the New York State Department of Education (NYSED); and
    2. Current certification to practice as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner issued by the NYSED; and
    3. Holds, or obtains through facility orientation, a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA).

    An annual education differential if you currently possess an appropriate degree in nursing or an allied health discipline from an accredited college or university, as listed below:
    • Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Bachelors in allied health discipline = $900
    • Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Masters in allied health discipline = $1,200
    • Doctorate in Education, Nursing Practice or PhD in Nursing (DNP) = $2,500

    An annual certification differential of $1,878 if you currently hold an appropriate certification that is nationally recognized in the discipline or area of specialization for which you are employed.

    An annual nursing experience differential ranging from $1,097 up to $9,100 for up to 10 years of experience if you have outside nursing experience as a Nurse Practitioner.

    For NP (PC/BH) ONLY: An annual assignment differential ranging from $10,000 up to $25,000 if assigned to a Behavioral Health department AND regularly working evenings/nights
