The World Bank Group's (WBG) Trade, Investment, and Competitiveness Global Department (TIC) provides analytical, advisory and lending support to client governments to enact reforms that lead to increased investment, trade, jobs and more competitive and contestable markets. The unit is comprised of thematic teams focused on (1) Trade, (2) Investment, and (3) Competitiveness.
The TIC Front Office is recruiting a Private Sector Specialist to support the Global Director and Front Office team in strategy, operations, communications, and technical work. The role involves producing high-quality briefs, communications materials, presentations, and analysis while engaging with internal and external stakeholders to advance the World Bank's work on trade, investment, and competitiveness.
The position requires familiarity with a broad range of activities of the type supported by TIC and its trust funds, from policy interventions to sector competitiveness, technical assistance and research.It will involve frequent interaction with staff and management across global and regional teams and with partner donors and countries. It will provide an opportunity to develop leadership and gain broad exposure to strategic and operational issues in Prosperity and the World Bank. The job requires strong attention to detail, excellent writing skills, data and analytics expertise, and exceptional organizational ability and communications skills. The candidate must also demonstrate strong relationship management skills and an ability to engage strategically and effectively with a range of partners.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational and Strategic Support: Work closely with the TIC Front Office Lead Economist and Special Assistant to the Global Director on day-to-day program tasks, while supporting smooth operations within the TIC Front Office.
Strategic Advisory and Policy Support: Review and provide input on corporate documents, regional projects, and stakeholder engagement activities. Act as a partnership focal point for external public and private sector collaborations. This includes managing the process for collecting and consolidating comments from technical teams on key corporate documents such as Country Partnership Frameworks and Country Economic Memorandums.
Research and Analysis: Conduct research, synthesize information from TIC teams and WBG VPUs. Contribute to analytical studies, policy briefs, and reports on trade, investment, and competitiveness. Act as the TIC Data Privacy Focal Point including representing monthly roundtables and ensuring compliance with data privacy assessment processes.
Knowledge Management and Dissemination: Coordinate knowledge management activities across the TIC front office and technical teams including managing and expanding the Corporate Briefs Database and approval process. Work closely with ECR to plan and implement communication and engagement strategies, proactively manage and update the TIC publications calendar, source content from technical teams for publications, coordinate knowledge-sharing events, and manage dissemination efforts to enhance visibility and impact.
Content Development and Communications: Create and refine communication products (e.g., briefs, talking points, op-eds, blogs, speeches, presentations, social media content, websites) in alignment with WBG branding and messaging. Ensure materials are tailored for policymakers and non-technical audiences.
Engagement and Stakeholder Management: Develop and maintain systems to manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including media, NGOs, civil society, think tanks, and international organizations. Identify strategic opportunities for collaboration and outreach, considering potential sensitivities.
Selection Criteria
Advanced Degree in Economics, International Relations or related field; candidates with Master's degrees should have a minimum of five years of relevant experience.
A demonstrated track record of working on international development topics, including distilling and simplifying complex subject matter for policy makers and non-technical audiences.
Experience in writing and editing products for a range of consumers, including analytical memos, briefing notes, in-depth features, and short pieces.
Experience in planning, developing, and implementing effective communication and engagement strategies. Strong record of producing high-quality narratives and power point presentations.
Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, in a calm and collaborative manner.
Demonstrated ability to coordinate contributions of members across various teams to complete a joint product.
Well-developed interpersonal and team working skills; ability to operate effectively as a unit team member and across the WBG; with initiative, persistence and a positive attitude.
Ability to deal sensitively in multicultural environments and build effective working relations with internal and external partners.
Outstanding presentation, written and oral communication skills in English.
Strong technology skills with Excel and SharePoint filing system.
