Position Title: PrepHealth & Wellness Teacher
Department: Prep
Reports To: AP Community Life
FLSA Classification: Exempt
FTE (Full-Time Equivalent): 100%
Schedule of Duties: 10-Month
Salary: $82,000- $170,000 annual/salary
Position Purpose: The Health & Wellness Instructor has primary responsibility for the design and implementation of a 9th grade Health & Wellness course and aligns that with programming for 10th-12th grade students.
Specific Expectations for Prep Faculty & Staff: In addition to regular teaching and duties, the following duties and responsibilities are expected as part of the faculty/staff workload: chaperoning, community responsibilities, professional development and trainings, classroom substitution, holding office hours, proctoring exams, admission interviews, and attendance of, or participation in, mandatory meetings and/or events (e.g. Director's Day, open houses, Schools' annual auction), as required and directed by your supervisor. All employees will be paid appropriately and according to current law. All employees will be paid appropriately and according to current law. If staff are required to work outside of the regular work schedule, permission to work outside of the regular work schedule is required; non-exempt employees will receive overtime pay, as eligible.

Essential Functions
- Collaborate with Health & Wellness teammate(s) to implement developmentally-appropriate health and wellness curriculum and learning experiences for students from 9th to 12th grade.
- Teach multiple sections of the foundational health and wellness course required of 9th graders.
- Maintain regular office hours to meet individually with students related to overall well being, and refer to the School Counseling team as appropriate.
- Serve on the Community Life and Student Care Teams.
- Collaborate regularly with the Community Life Team, School Counseling, Campus Ministry, Academic Department Heads, and OMCS team to support integration of Health & Wellness content where appropriate and support school wide initiatives to enhance student well being.
- Stay informed about current research and best practices in Health and Wellness Education, continuously enhancing subject matter expertise and teaching methods through ongoing professional development.
- Provide or support professional development for SHP educators about Health & Wellness topics.
- Evaluates student work and provides meaningful feedback to guide learning/growth.
- Plans, evaluates, and revises curricula, course content, course materials, and methods of instruction.
- Uses effective class management techniques to ensure effective learning.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- BA degree in relevant field required, advanced degree preferred.
- At least 3 years of experience in a school-based setting.
- Deep knowledge of topics related to substance use, sexual health & consent, mental health, and social identity factors.
- Thorough knowledge of adolescent development.
- Background or interest in foundations of emotional literacy for the purposes of content delivery, pedagogy, and relational approach to working with students.
- Ability to foster a sense of safety and inclusion in school environments.
- Dedication to supporting adolescents with mental health issues and/or learning differences.
- Excellent verbal and written skills in English as well as exceptional interpersonal skills, and ability to collaborate, build relationships, and work effectively with others.
- An understanding of independent school cultures and educational communities
- A clear commitment to the educational philosophy of the school as articulated in the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart Schools.
- Ability to work well with colleagues; willingness to be an active, enthusiastic member of the SHS community.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Works in an often highly stressful environment with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts.
- Demonstrated excellent attendance and punctuality.
- May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time.
- Work primarily in a traditional climate controlled classroom environment and intermittently in outside weather conditions, including heat and cold typical to the Mid-Peninsula in the Bay Area.
- Be able to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs. and regularly travel safely and comfortably over a 63 acre campus.
- Available and willing to attend and work some evenings/weekends and on occasional overnight trips.
- Abide by school's current safety policies (ex: wearing masks, washing hands, etc.)
