Description
The City of Richmond Department of Public Utilities is responsible for the service and maintenance of the separated and combined sewer system (CSO). The Collections Engineering Division is seeking a highly qualified Engineer with considerable knowledge of sanitary sewer design, modeling, and project management. The incumbent must possess skills in plan design, plan review, hydraulic modeling, construction, and maintenance of sanitary sewer conveyance systems. The incumbent is required to create and present reports, presentations of projects to county & city administrators, council members and the general public. The incumbent will also provide and share expertise with other staff engineers.

Duties include but are not limited to

  • Design and installation of sewer applications;
  • Coordinating with engineering consultants and contractors;
  • Developing project cost estimates;
  • Equipment specifications and review of plans and specifications;
  • Compiles, verifies and assembles complex information;
  • Produces and reviews routine and specialized reports;
  • Evaluates policy, program or plan effectiveness based on complex data;
  • Makes recommendations and issues reports;
  • Assures that all aspects of assigned projects are in compliance with Federal, State and Local regulations.

Qualifications, Special Certifications and Licenses
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering
  • Five years of professional engineering experience

LICENSING, CERTIFICATIONS, and OTHER SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Some assignments may require a Professional Engineering (PE) Registration
  • Some assignments may require a valid Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record and a valid Commonwealth of Virginia Driver's License within 30 days of hire

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

In terms of the physical strength to perform the essential duties, this classification is considered to be sedentary, exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects.
