Chief Plant Engineer

Objective

Lead and manage all engineering systems at our Richmond facility, ensuring optimal performance of critical equipment while driving operational excellence. As a key member of our leadership team, you'll oversee facility maintenance, equipment reliability, and capital improvements while maintaining compliance with industry standards to support our premium commercial services.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all engineering and maintenance operations for the facility
  • Maintain peak performance of critical systems including high-pressure boilers, industrial air compressors, and heat recovery equipment
  • Create and execute comprehensive preventive maintenance strategies across all plant equipment
  • Spearhead energy efficiency initiatives to optimize utility consumption and reduce operational costs
  • Build and develop a skilled maintenance team through training, mentorship, and performance management
  • Partner with production leaders to maximize equipment uptime and operational availability
  • Ensure regulatory compliance with ASME boiler codes, EPA requirements, and OSHA standards
  • Direct capital planning processes including budgeting, equipment specification, procurement, and installation
  • Implement performance metrics to track maintenance effectiveness and equipment reliability
  • Manage external vendor relationships and service agreements for specialized systems
  • Travel up to 25% of the time between company plant locations to support multi-site engineering initiatives and consistency in operations

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering (advanced degree a plus)
  • Minimum 7 years of industrial engineering experience with 3+ years in leadership positions
  • Demonstrated expertise with industrial boiler systems, air compressors, and heat exchangers
  • Virginia Boiler Operator license or ability to secure within 6 months of hire
  • Comprehensive understanding of steam systems, condensate return, and water treatment processes
  • Experience implementing energy management and utility optimization programs
  • Exceptional leadership capabilities with strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency with computerized maintenance management systems and planning software
  • Proven track record managing capital projects and equipment specifications
  • Ideal candidates will have experience in industrial processing, energy management certifications, automation/PLC controls knowledge, and lean manufacturing expertise
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred but not required
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% to other company facilities as needed
