Zachry Group is currently accepting applications for Pipe Stress Engineers for our design center location in Charlotte, NC.

The Piping Engineer will be responsible for performing pipe stress analysis per applicable ASME codes and standards (B31.1 and B31.3); utilize pipe stress software; evaluate calculated stress results, displacements, and pipe support loads; design and select supports, spring hangers, and expansion joints for piping systems as well as preparation of calculations and technical datasheets.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for completing project specific objectives on schedule and on budget
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, or computer-generated reports
  • Conduct and participate in design reviews and various engineering related meetings
  • Gather, analyze, and document data concerning existing equipment and provide data comparisons
  • Complete project documentation as required by the engineering quality management process
  • Develop and test models of alternate designs and processing methods to assess feasibility, operating condition effects, possible new applications and necessity of modification
  • Specify system components or direct modification of systems to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications
  • Independently evaluates, selects, and applies standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria using judgment in making minor adaptations and modifications
  • Review and Check Isometrics and Pipe support designs
  • Produce Pipe Stress Analysis reports
  • Communicate internally with other disciplines and externally with the client as necessary
  • Other duties as assigned


Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in a mechanical, industrial, chemical or petroleum engineering discipline from an accredited engineering program
  • Minimum 10 years related experience power, petrochemical, and construction projects
  • Minimum 5-10 years of experience with pipe stress analysis, CAESAR II, and/or Autopipe software
  • Knowledge of ASME B31.1, ASME B31.3, and API codes
  • Familiarity with Pipe Specifications, Valve Specifications, and Piping Materials
  • Knowledge of pipe support design and flexibility analysis
  • Advanced problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Values ethics, professionalism, and maintains confidentiality
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Comfortable working in a collaborative, transparent, teamwork-based culture
  • Proficient with Engineering and Computer Software: Caesar II, Navisworks, familiar with CADD software, Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to independently organize and prioritize work assignments and coordinate a variety of tasks, with good attention to detail and ability to deal with conflicting priorities and deadlines
  • Understanding, acceptance and adherence of company policies and procedures, including all business objectives and goals
  • Willingness to travel and work in office and field environments


PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
  • Licensed Professional Engineer
  • Power Plant Design Experience


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Employee will be required to communicate in person, via telephone, email, use of arm/hand steadiness, manual dexterity, finger dexterity, multi limb coordination, oral expression, and comprehension. May be required to lift, carry and move objects safely.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Employee will work in multiple environments including an office, warehouse and in a trailer or building on construction sites. On construction sites, noise levels will be moderate to high. Job sites may contain the following: light to heavy equipment vehicles, small to large equipment, materials, communication equipment and tools, people standing, walking, sitting, signaling, and talking. Noise levels vary and may include bells, whistles, and alarms.
