The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Scientist/Engineer IV. This position will work across our seven subspecialties designing studies and performing biostatistical methods for clinical, epidemiological, and health services research.

The Research Scientist/Engineer IV must be able to work independently. This position requires a high level of skill in problem solving, communication, and organization. In addition to technical skills, the ideal candidate will demonstrate resourcefulness, well-honed project management skills, and a collegial/collaborative communication style.

This position will be directed by Dr. Ronit Katz, ObGyn Director of Biostatistics. Responsibilities will include applying critical thinking and sound judgment in managing complex work, collaborating with clinical investigators to analyze clinical data, and contributing to the writing and submission of manuscripts, scientific reports, and grant applications. You will perform statistical analyses and provide analytic consultation on a wide range of research projects, assisting investigators in selecting appropriate statistical methods. You will be encouraged to identify your own line of research within ObGyn and pursue grant funding to support your work. Additionally, you will develop, coordinate, and evaluate quality assurance procedures for ongoing data collection and analysis, which will involve data cleaning, restructuring, and management. You will also take primary responsibility for the statistical aspects of protocol development and implementation, and provide guidance for resident and fellow research projects.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Write grants to secure funding for original research ideas and collaborate on grant writing with clinical investigators.

  • Serve as expert consultant on study design for Principal Investigators across the department, including:

  • Choosing appropriate study designs (e.g., randomized controlled trials, cohort studies, case-control studies).

  • Determining sample size and power calculations.

  • Developing data collection instruments and protocols.

  • Addressing potential biases and confounding factors.

Perform Biostatistical Methods (40%): This focuses on the practical application of statistical techniques.

  • Design and implement appropriate statistical methods (eg regression analysis, survival analysis, time series analysis) for both original research projects and for clinical investigator projects. This requires a deep understanding of statistical theory and the ability to tailor methods to specific research questions and data types.

  • Conduct statistical analyses and interpret results. This involves writing and maintaining statistical code (eg in R, Stata, SAS, Python), generating tables and graphs to visualize data, and interpreting the results in a clear and concise manner.
