The Director, Finance is responsible for the financial operations of Christian Herald Association (CHA), d/b/a The Bowery Mission (TBM), and its subsidiaries. The Director, Finance works as part of a team to ensure all financial reporting, budgets and forecasts accurately reflects the financial positions and plans of CHA. In addition, compliance with all applicable laws and accounting standards must be maintained while also disclosing to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) any material risks that have been identified or process improvements that can be made.

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Financial Operations analyzes data and presents financials reports in an accurate and timely manner, clearly communicates monthly, quarterly, and annual financial results, monitors progress and changes and keeps senior leadership abreast of CHA's financial status.
  • Financial Planning leads the annual budgeting and mid-year forecast process and provide management information for executive decision making.
  • Allocation Budgeting tracking for fundraising that is driven by program specific budgets matching donor gifts to actual expenditures, developing the annual budget and reporting on actual results through the year.
  • Staff Leadership serves as a key leader of staff over financial operations that covers multiple entities and various programs. Scope of work includes payroll, accounts payable, credit card management, and fixed asset management.
  • Balance Sheet Review ensures that assets and liabilities are properly recorded including bank, investment and payroll accounts.
  • Annual Audits and related filings to ensure systems and processes are in place to gather and monitor financial data in preparation for an annual audit, Form 990 tax filings, CHAR 500, and 1099 generation.


Requirements:
  • Embrace's the organization's Statement of Faith.
  • At least ten years proven work experience, including supervisory role with financial oversight responsibilities.
  • Undergraduate degree in accounting, must be an accounting major.
  • Work experience would include working with Board of Directors, managing a Finance team, accounting software management, providing reporting on finances, leading audits, government filings and compliance.
  • Experience with non-profit accounting and revenue recognition standards including fund accounting.
  • Strong computer skills - Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Must be able to work at different downtown Manhattan campuses.


Preferred:
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Software experience in Sage Intacct, Salesforce, Bill.com, Expense Path, Bamboo HR preferred.


Salary commensurate with relevant education & experience: $110,000- $120,000 annually.
