Description:

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Lead strategic sourcing and spend management initiatives for corporate spending across several major categories including, but not limited to: pharmacy drugs, pharmacy supplies, freight, and office supplies
  • Direct the management of purchasing categories across the company; develop and execute strategies to maximize sustainable procurement-related savings
  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with suppliers
  • Evaluate changes affecting both the supply of, and demand for, needed products and materials
  • Drive innovation and standardization in Procurement management and analysis
  • Interact regularly with Birdi executive management and other ownership stakeholders; provide detailed and timely follow-up as required
  • Participate in key projects to drive growth or efficiency, and communicate potential risks
  • Network with business segment and functional leadership to develop specific sourcing plans and strategies, and provide spend analytics, business intelligence, best practices, and champion cost improvement programs
  • Investigate and develop value generation initiatives within selected categories; prioritize and execute strategic sourcing initiatives to drive savings, create value, and support the objectives of the organization
  • Direct resources charged with managing sources of supplies, preparing bid specifications, and reviewing/evaluating quotations and bid proposals
  • Direct resources charged with the identification and selection of vendors who best meet the following criteria: price, quality, quantity and availability
  • Structure analysis of spend to enable informed decision-making and drive discussions with key stakeholders
  • Review activities to ensure compliance with established procedures and suppliers
  • Provide strategic recommendations related to supplier performance against contracted service levels and business expectations, weighing potential future financial benefits
  • Negotiate contracts and establish purchase agreements with vendors, setting dollar limits and terms of contracts
  • Design and implement company policies and procedures related to procurement
  • Manage disputes related to contracts and purchases
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee the operation of a corporate function, including meeting enterprise-wide obligations of the department, and other senior-level responsibilities
  • Strong background and demonstrated success in both direct and indirect sourcing, influence/relationship management, and contract negotiation
  • Experience with category management and multi-step strategic sourcing processes and systems
  • A knowledgeable individual with appropriate industry experience in mail order and specialty pharmacy
  • Strong data analysis and presentation skills
  • Ability to exercise considerable judgment, maintain confidentiality, and act in a diplomatic manner
  • Ability to independently identify, research, and resolve issues
  • An individual who can relate to people at all levels of an organization and possesses excellent communication skills
  • An excellent facilitator who is experienced in resolving conflicts between different parties to a dispute
  • A decisive individual who possesses a strategic focus and a detail-oriented perspective
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines efficiently in a complex and fast paced environment
  • A well-organized and self-directed individual who can work with minimal amount of supervision
  • Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays pursuant with industry demands
  • Willingness to travel

Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in business, mathematical, statistical, financial, or related discipline proven industry experience will be acceptable in lieu of degree
  • Minimum 5 to 10 years' experience in pharmacy procurement, vendor relations and operations
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities, including the desire to set a vision for the department and execute towards that goal on a continuous basis
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and industry related software programs

Preferred Skill/Abilities:

  • Master's degree
  • Project management experience
  • RFI/RFP experience
  • Prior experience in Retail, Mail Order, Specialty Pharmacy, PBM, pharmaceutical or managed health care industry preferred.

Work Environment/Physical Requirements:
  • Home-based office environment, with minimal exposure to excessive noise or adverse environmental issues, and occasional local and/or overnight travel, including exposure to heat, cold, and inclement weather conditions. Transportation for travel typically will include automobile and plane.
  • Production/warehouse environment, with exposure to some noise and machinery.
  • Ability to sit and stand for prolonged periods of time.
