The Department of Administration, Division of Risk Management is recruiting for a Risk Manager in Anchorage or Juneau!
What You Will Be Doing:
Mitigating risk for the State of Alaska through sound decision making, thoughtful research, cooperative teamwork, and inspiring leadership.

Duties will include, but not be limited to, the supervision of Claims Administrators and a Project Assistant, working with our broker to procure specialty insurance products, the review and negotiation of insurance requirements for State agencies, and negotiating division service contracts.

The Risk Manager works side by side with our Accountant 4 in the annual formulation of Cost of Risk Allocation (CORA), the cornerstone of Risk Management's operating budget.
The individual in this position enjoys a variety of claims related responsibilities, mixed with insurance policies, tossed with risk management inquiries, topped off with budget tasks. Benefits of Joining Our Team:The Risk Management Division is a small six-person team committed to providing exceptional claims management in property, torts, workers' compensation, aviation, and marine. This Division also manages the self-insurance program for the State of Alaska, reviews State contracts to ensure State interests are protected, and manages the Volunteer Service Agreements, to name just a few. In this role, you will have a direct influence on the Claims Administrators, the Project Director, the State contracts, and the ability to efficiently and effectively attain division goals and objectives. The Working Environment You Can Expect:
Our Anchorage office is located on the 19th floor of the Atwood Building at 550 West 7th Avenue with unbeatable views of the Chugach Range, the Cook Inlet and Mount Susitna. The Atwood Building is on the West side of downtown Anchorage close to some of the best restaurants Anchorage has to offer.

Our Juneau office is located on the 10th floor of the State Office Building in the historic state capital with beautiful views of the Gastineau Channel and cruise ship docks.
Our small, friendly, supportive staff of six fosters a respectful, fun and productive work environment. The individual in this position will be expected to work independently and with team members, as well as with vendors via in-person, telephonic, and/or electronic means on a daily basis.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or the equivalent from an accredited college in public or business administration or a closely related field.
AND
Four years of professional experience in commercial insurance which shall have included risk administration, risk identification and analysis, negotiation of insurance and consultant contracts, investigation of risk funding alternatives; loss control, claims administration and underwriting. Two years of the required experience must have been as a professional manager in commercial property and casualty insurance programs (e.g. commercial or self-insurance) or as a Claims Administrator with the State of Alaska.

Additional appropriate experience may substitute for the education on a year-for-year basis. Appropriate graduate education may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis, except for the required two years as a professional manager in commercial property and casualty insurance programs or at the Claims Administrator level with the State of Alaska.
