Major Responsibilities:
- Responsible for direct patient care services and takes the necessary actions to remedy variances in care delivery and resolves issues as identified. Assesses operational efficiency of each clinical program/service, as well as interdepartmental systems, to assure operational effectiveness and "patient-friendly" access to clinical services.
- Develop, implement and monitor the operation budgets for areas of responsibility, including revenue, expenses, salary planning and capital equipment sufficient to meet current and projected patient volume/service requirements. Monitor key quality metrics to achieve site and system goals for key result areas in all areas of responsibility.
- Improve department and organization's outcomes by providing leadership to performance improvement activities: a) Attend monthly Performance Improvement meetings, b) Facilitate development, maintenance and annual revision of PI plans for all areas of responsibility. c) Analyze results and develop strategies to ensure that desired clinical outcomes and standards of care are achieved and sustained, d) Provide leadership to hospital and system committees, task forces, and PI teams, e) Mentor division leadership to ensure adherence to principals of shared governance and compliance with IDPH, Accrediting Organization, and other licensing/accrediting agencies.
- Ensure quality and safety of care delivery by: a) ensuring the development of competency training programs as needed; b) compliance with Culture of Safety initiatives; c) promoting evidence based practice through a variety of initiatives, staying abreast of newly published studies and ensuring application of research results in practice; d) Developing, approving and facilitating review of department policies, procedures and protocols, e) Interpreting hospital policies and procedures to staff and ensuring that staff follows same.
- Responsible for achieving and maintaining high levels of associate satisfaction in compliance with the standards set by ACH and Advocate Aurora Health Care. Develops and mentors managers and front line leaders to assure they demonstrate leadership competencies. Creates associate development action plans for managers and FLL. Ensures adequate orientation of staff utilizing appropriate skills and competency checklist and Advocate Aurora system-wide orientation. Collaborates with system clinical education/HR to ensure ongoing clinical education is strategically planned and implemented.
- Monitors and facilitates the resolution of performance and/or other associate relations issues. Evaluate and hold leaders accountable for associate performance in their areas. Encourage the recognition of high performers, address low performers, and improve overall associate performance.
- Responsible for achieving and exceeding consistently high patient satisfaction results. Supports the Advocate Experience across ACH-OL. Sets expectations and standards of leadership accountability for maintaining and hardwiring tools to achieve top quartile results. Provide leadership in order to ensure an exceptional patient experience, including: a) modeling and holding others accountable for Standards of Behavior; b) rounding for patient outcomes; c) encouraging creative interventions to improve the patient experience; d) counseling leaders whose areas are not achieving intended results for patient satisfaction.
- Integrate the functions of assigned areas and promote relations between assigned departments and other hospital and Advocate facilities to achieve consistent service standards of care.
- Develops and maintains operational and capital budgets in collaboration with managers and CNE. Monitors financial and staff productivity indicators. Provides analysis, recommends options for managers to optimize productivity. Serves as a mentor for managers in understanding and utilizing financial tools. Benchmarks staffing best practices in areas of responsibilities. Ensures that appropriate staff is budgeted and optimized.
- Improve physician satisfaction by developing and maintaining relationships with physicians in areas of responsibility. Promote physician satisfaction in clinical areas by rounding on medical directors and developing action plans to address areas for improvement. Keeps abreast of current standards of care and new business and technology developments via internal/external networking and resources. Participates in activities to enhance professional growth by involvement in professional organization and continuing education.
Licensure:
- Nurse, Registered (RN)
Education/Experience Required:
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or Higher Degree in Nursing is required and obtained Masters Degree or higher in Nursing or Healthcare related field (MHA, MBA). A minimum of 5-7 years progressive leadership experience in healthcare management with preferred recent experience in neonatal/pediatric nursing.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
- Strong leadership skills, strong interpersonal team building and conflict management skills. Excellent communication, written, listening and verbal skills. Ability to prioritize and simultaneously manage several projects/issues. Ability to serve as a team player and lead effectively both professional and non-professional staff. Considerable knowledge of the health care industry and alternate delivery systems. Well-developed computer skills in Microsoft Office and hospital systems
- Licensed Registered Nurse IL/ National Certification in Area of Specialty (Preferred NEA-BC or CENP)
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and in difficult situations. Able to handle multiple tasks and duties at a time. Travel to multiple practice sites. Demonstrated flexibility in unexpected situations. Ability to communicate and negotiate in dealing with conflicting situations. Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to respond to emergencies on a 24-hour basis.
