Under broad guidance, the Systems Superintendent is responsible for:
a) Supervising day-to-day administration and planning of systems operations, maintenance, budget and the safety program
b) Ensuring that the daily operation plan is optimized for maximum efficiency and aligned with the goals established by HRSD and the Chief of Small Communities
c) Following established guidelines to ensure permit/MOM Program compliance and safe work environment
d) Performing all duties in accordance with HRSD mission, vision and values

Job Requirements
a) Education
Required
a) H.S. Diploma or GED
b) Completion of HRSD's Apprenticeship Program or an approved equivalent wastewater educational program
b) Experience
1. Required
Minimum of 8 years' experience in wastewater treatment operations and plant maintenance as follows:
4 years' experience as Plant Operator or Maintenance Operator
Experience as a Lead Operator
Or approved equivalent wastewater experience to include multiple progressive positions in a supervisory capacity in a treatment plant
2. Desired
a) Internal HRSD experience in the above positions
b) Demonstrated professional knowledge of resource optimization
c) Ability to coordinate and understand construction activities
d) Experience with MS Office software, Google Chrome, and Computer Maintenance Management Systems
e) Knowledge of ERP, LIMS, DCS Software
f) Proficient in using plant laboratory equipment
g) Proficient in the operation and maintenance of plant mechanical equipment
h) Experience in planning and organizing work
i) Supervisory experience dealing with hiring, mentoring and disciplinary actions
c) Job Specific Technical Competencies
1. Required
a) Knowledge of plant unit process operation and equipment
b) Knowledge of preventative and corrective maintenance procedures
c) Knowledge of regulatory requirements
d) Knowledge of budget and procurement processes
e) Effective communication skills
2. Desired
a) Knowledge of HRSD programs and policies
b) Knowledge of HRSD Safety Program
d) Special Licenses
1. Required
a) Valid Driver's License from state of residence
b) Must possess or be able to obtain a Virginia Class I Wastewater Operator's License
c) Must possess or be able to obtain QA/QC Certification
2. Desired
a) Internal HRSD professional and management training
b) CPR and First Aid Certification
e) HRSD Universal Competencies
