What You'll Do:
Duties & Responsibilities
- Coordinate monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes with staff; work with external auditors as part of the annual reporting processes.
- Research accounting pronouncements and regulatory authority to ensure transactions are recorded properly.
- Update technical accounting job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading professional publications to continuously improve expertise in government contract accounting, DCAA accounting, and related compliance requirements.
- Review, implement, and monitor internal controls and general operating procedures for areas of responsibility. Communicate general accounting procedures to external departments.
- Fully understand (SME) and maintain the government contracting financial system used to manage the business.
- Prepare and review daily, weekly, and quarterly reports for accuracy and DCAA compliance before providing them to management.
- Ensure the accurate preparation and timely delivery of internal financial statements to management.
- Properly record intercompany transactions.
- Provide consultation and advice to designated operational department leaders. Review operational performance and provide recommendations and advice to improve it.
- Prepare complete and accurate financial reports and required filings with various agencies.
- Coordinate accurate and timely tax filings with the organization's tax accountant and legal team.
- Work with management to properly set up the accounting and billing process for new contracts.
- Understand how to properly administer and account for different types of contracts, including fixed-price, cost-plus, and other contract configurations.
- Ensure the accounting staff performs the billing process timely and accurately.
- Provide support to management during the contract bidding process.
- Review payroll transactions to ensure compliance with accounting and DCAA requirements.
- Work with management to properly calculate indirect cost and overhead rates.
- Work in conjunction with other departmental managers to ensure the accuracy of transaction reporting in accordance with GAAP, DCAA, and expectations.
- Ensure accounting staff is appropriately trained. Create and maintain General Operating Procedures for areas of responsibility.
- Oversee the accounts payable function for the government contracting business.
- Review all work performed by the accounting staff, including invoices and account analyses (reconciliations) of all balance sheet accounts for support of balances.
- Coordinate and lead various projects relating directly to the Accounting areas in the Finance Department (e.g., software implementation/upgrades).
- Foster a cohesive team environment among all staff of the Finance Department and Contracts business unit.
- Develop strong working relationships across all lines of management, with key individuals in the business' operations and external auditors.
What You Bring
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting required
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in Accounting or Finance-related fields.
- Knowledge and experience with contract accounting and related technical standards (GASB, SFFAS, etc.).
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and accounting systems.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
Preferred Skills/Experience:
- Industry experience in government contracting and DCAA compliance strongly preferred.
- CPA or other professional certification preferred.
- Some financial statement and tax knowledge is a plus.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to carry, reach, kneel, grasp, sit, and walk.
- Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds.
