Duties and Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Director, Energy and Sustainability Services, the Manager, Plant Operations is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day delivery of plant operations (heating, cooling, air and gas) and to administer the central plant operations services and programs. The Manager will be required to contribute to broader, annual departmental planning including identification of goals, targets, and outcomes.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced professional, acting as a subject matter expert in the area of facility and plant operations, and have previous supervision and leadership experience. The Manager, in collaboration with others will oversee the day-to-day plant operations, implement a maintenance program, and lead the ongoing operational planning and projects seeking opportunities for improvement.

Qualifications:
The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:
Knowledge of operational management and leadership concepts practices including program/service delivery models, policy development, planning, budgeting, performance measurement management, and human resources
Knowledge of plant and facility operations program design, delivery, assessment, and evaluation methodologies, processes, and practices
Knowledge of relevant governing legislation, collective agreements, policies and procedures
Knowledge of office as well as the broader university academic units, departments, and divisions
Knowledge of office productivity software and databases, internet browsers and search engines, discipline-specific software, enterprise software, and technology devices
Knowledge is used to lead plant operations unit
Education and Experience:
The above is normally acquired through the completion of:
Operating Engineer First Class Certification TSSA (In case of Second Class Certification, the incumbent must obtain the First Class Certification TSSA within 2 years of service at Carleton University)
Knowledge of the Operating Engineers Act (O.Reg 219/01) and Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations as amended
Minimum of ten years of previous facility and plant operations experience including five years of supervision and leadership experience
