Position Information
The San Antonio District Maintenance Office is looking for a Transportation Engineer to lead the District Maintenance Design team. This individual will be responsible for overseeing the scheduling and design of Routine Maintenance Contracts, Emergency Maintenance Contracts, Bridge Preventive Maintenance Contracts and Districtwide Seal Coat Contract. The section produces Plans, Specifications, and Estimates for an array of different avenues in the transportation field. This is a wonderful opportunity to develop Team Lead experience that will advance the supervisory skills of this person. There are also opportunities to participate in Emergency Operations activities during hurricane and winter weather events. Annual Salary Ranges
Transportation Engineer II (B25) - $69,572- $114,099
Transportation Engineer III (B26) - $76,530- $129,430
Transportation Engineer IV (B27) - $84,182- $142,374
This position is for multiple Transportation Engineer II, III, or IV. The Texas Department of Transportation reserves the sole right in determining the level of position based on the applicant's work experience, education, skill level and all other appropriate factors, and based on business needs.

Position Description
Performs highly advanced and complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS.
Experience:
Transportation Engineer II: 5 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent).
Transportation Engineer III: 6 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent)
Transportation Engineer IV: 7 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent)
Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis . Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
Licenses and Certifications:
*Professional engineers licensed in another state in the United States , but not currently licensed in the State of Texas, must (1) meet the license requirements of the State of Texas Engineering Practices Act, (2) obtain a professional engineering license from the State of Texas within six (6) months of the date of hire, and (3) sign an agreement to that effect as a condition of employment.

Essential Duties:
Transportation Engineer II
- Performs complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts.
- Trains engineering staff.
- Assists in the development, preparation and letting of maintenance contracts for the district.
- Assists with design, computer operations and plan preparation.
- Coordinates and monitors assigned projects/programs/plans.
- Interprets maintenance standards, rules, methods, procedures, practices and policies.
- Leads/Trains professional and administrative staff.
- Performs and coordinates the review and processing of Plans, Specifications & Estimates (PS&E) submission, special specifications or special provisions.
- Performs data collection, analyses, forecasts and plan development.
- Reviews, coordinates, monitors and approves routine and emergency maintenance contracts; performs/oversees maintenance specifications writing/review, plans and proposal review, and preparation of estimates for letting.
- Coordinates with others to develop, monitor and update integrated project plans and schedules to ensure projects are executed in the most efficient manner possible.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Transportation Engineer III

- Performs advanced and complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts.
- Utilizes project management principles in initiating, planning, executing, monitoring, controlling and closing for complex transportation projects.
Transportation Engineer IV

- Trains engineering staff.

- Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
- Licensed Prof Engineer*
- If performing underwater bridge inspections: Must have Open Water Diver certification.
- For Bridge Inspection: Must have completed a comprehensive training course based on the Bridge Inspector's Training Manual or NICET Level III or IV certification in Bridge Safety Inspection within (1) year of date of hire.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions
- Sedentary work: Lift up to 10 lbs at a time and occasionally carry files/small tools
- Close Visual Acuity-work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading
- Required to wear protective gear-respirator, hard hat, or other device
- Talking-expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken words
