Why does the job exist?

The Information Technology Division (ITD) provides timely and cost-effective information technology services to the department, its programs, divisions, and offices. This support enables the department to fulfill the mission of the Health Care Authority in an efficient and responsive manner and ensures the HCA gains full benefit from its current and future investments in technology. This position is part of the middleware group, which also includes system administrators as another subgroup.

The IT Database Administrator - Supervisor will:
  • Oversee database operations, enhancing performance, ensuring data integrity, security, and availability, and supporting the integration layer within the organization's IT infrastructure;
  • Manage and support critical HCA systems;
  • Ensure seamless communication and data exchange between different systems and applications, ultimately supporting the organization's business needs and technological goals;

The IT DBA Supervisor manages and supports the integration layer within the organization's IT infrastructure, ensuring seamless communication and data exchange between systems and applications. This involves coordinating with other IT groups to maintain effective integration and data flow, which is crucial for smooth business operations.

The IT Database Administrator - Supervisor is responsible for:
  • Full ownership of database servers, ensuring their optimal performance, availability, and integration with other systems. The DBA Supervisor also oversees APIs and collaborates with system administrators to manage SharePoint servers, ensuring seamless integration of these components.
  • The accountability for the performance, reliability, and security of integration processes in the production environment. This involves monitoring and maintaining integration systems, resolving issues promptly, and ensuring high availability and performance.
  • Developing and maintaining a repository of API libraries for use across different projects and applications within the organization, ensuring consistent, reusable, and efficient integrations. Additionally, the DBA Supervisor handles data integration tasks, combining data from different sources and transforming it into a usable format. This includes designing, developing, and maintaining data pipelines to ensure accurate and timely data processing and delivery.


Who are the customers?

  • This position collaborates with several internal and external business and technology stakeholders at all levels to support the business needs of the New Mexico Health Care Authority (HCA) by ensuring robust and reliable database solutions.


Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate has:
  • Strong knowledge of SQL databases (e.g., SQL Server, Snowflake) with experience in database performance tuning, backup and recovery, and security management;
  • Strong knowledge and experience in data pipeline development.
  • Proven the ability to work effectively in a team environment, collaborating with system administrators and other IT professionals.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience guiding and mentoring DBAs, offering constructive feedback, conducting performance reviews, and supporting their professional development.
  • The ability to maintain comprehensive documentation of database configurations and procedures, ensuring that all practices meet industry standards and regulatory requirements and;
  • Prior experience as a full stack developer is beneficial for this position.


Minimum Qualification

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS), Information Technology, Engineering, or similar technical degree and four (4) years of experience in data analysis, design, storage, and security. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling eight (8) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.

Must obtain a Defensive Driving Certificate.
