A Brief Overview
The Manager, Nursing (L&D) is responsible for the day to day operations and leadership of the Level III Labor & Delivery Unit and Obstetric Emergency Department (OBED). The incumbent is accountable for the quality of services and works closely with the department director and providers to manage labor and operational budget, clinical outcomes and efficiency. The Manager collaborates and leads unit-based nursing practice, quality, and systems improvemen through innovation, technology management, ethics, and evidence-based research. Supports staff recruitment and retention efforts. Embraces the organizational strategic vision, premier behaviors and cultural beliefs for high quality, patient-centered care. Promotes and role models diversity and inclusivity in nursing and advances quality healthcare by defining and supporting areas of changing practice and closing practice-gaps.

What you will do
  • Labor & Delivery and OBED Management and Strategic Planning * Collaborates with department director and division nursing leadership to identify and implement innovative models and best practices with emphasis on High Risk OB quality of care. * Partners with the department director and leadership team to identify and drive quality and performance improvement initiatives. Participates in establishing mechanisms to design, measure, maintain, and improve the performance and quality of department services. Ensures compliance with applicable regulatory guidelines and established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, safety, environmental and infection control standards. Collaborates with management team and staff in development of action plans in line with the organization's strategic initiatives and goals. * Utilizes a multidisciplinary approach to build strategies that promote professional relationships with direct reports, educators, medical staff, and other disciplines. * Establishes a strong network internally and externally to achieve a high level of standards of quality and innovation. * Promotes the department throughout the local, regional and state communities and ensures all functions and standards of care are in compliance with applicable regulatory guidelines.
  • Comprehensive High Risk OB Unit Operations * Accountable for throughput and flow objectives and works closely with department director to determine how to operationalize these strategies, managing, motivating and directing the staff and front line leadership in the support of quality patient care, safety, financial improvements, and optimal patient flow, thereby promoting an integrated and seamless patient-centered experience. * Manages the operation and functionality of all equipment and the performance of all procedures in the department including operating rooms. * Monitors and maintains supply inventories and capital equipment purchases. * Evaluates service needs and volumes and adjust staffing levels accordingly. Maintains effective and appropriate staffing and staff scheduling to ensure safe, quality patient care. Promotes staff flexibility and cross-training. Provides communication to medical and nursing staff through rounding, huddles, staff meetings and other forms of communication to relay information regarding department updates, organizational activities, financial performance, educational opportunities, interdepartmental activities and PI activities. * Responsible for problem solving to address issues relating to patient safety, care and service. Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team and interdepartmentally to facilitate that department's ability to meet its goals and objectives. Ensures coordination of care with other departments to promote the highest level of patient care and satisfaction. Participates in interdisciplinary committees throughout the organization. * Manages human resource functions such as interviewing, selection, orientation, education/training, feedback, performance evaluation, and policy and procedure development. Maintains personnel files, including documentation of appropriate staff orientation, competency, training, discipline and performance reviews. Oversees department scheduling, timekeeping and payroll. Collaborates with HR concerning employee issues and performance. Conducts employee coaching, counseling, disciplinary actions and annual appraisals. Monitors staff adherence to hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Financial Management * Participates in the preparation of operational and capital budgets and works with medical and nursing directors to meet budgeted targets for revenue and expenses. Prepares and presents business plans, reports, and other statistical data related to PI.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing Required and
  • Master's Degree in Nursing Preferred
  • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure Current license to work in the State of Tennessee Upon Hire Required and
  • CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation Upon Hire Required or
  • BCLS - Basic Life Support BLS Upon Hire Required or
  • ACLS Upon Hire Required
  • Minimum 3 years experience of progressive clinical/nursing management experience Required and
  • At least 1 year experience Experience in High Risk OB Preferred
