Description

Position: Senior Mechanical Engineer (Full Time, Immediate)

Location: Hybrid with expectation of 1 day / week in Fremont, NH

Position Summary

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for leading the design and development of Altaeros Supertower systems and components. S/he will work within the multi-disciplinary engineering team, manufacturing team, business development team, and project managers. The senior mechanical engineer will also mentor junior engineers and ensure adherence to standard design practices.

Responsibilities
  • Work with the cross-functional team to learn and understand the SuperTower.
  • Conceptualize, Design and Develop various aspects of the SuperTower system ranging between heavy equipment, soft goods, and payloads. Lead designs through the product development process (requirements definition, concept selection, risk mitigations, etc.)
  • Run engineering calculations, simulations, and analysis and document them.
  • Lead the creation of and contribute to creation of CAD design packages
  • Drive vendor interactions (vendor selection, quoting, procurement support)
  • Support the manufacturing team in Fremont in prototype or production builds both with technical support and hands-on support.
  • Support the field service team when critical engineering concerns are identified. Provide recommendations for diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance and hands-on support
  • Create test and qualification plans to validate designs. Engage in testing when appropriate, calculate, and document test results
  • Mentor junior engineers and interns and provide feedback and support for their career growth


Requirements

Qualifications:
  • BS or higher in Mechanical Engineering
  • 10-15 years of experience
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with ability to clearly explain engineering decisions to peers, management, suppliers, and cross-departmental teams
  • Hands-on experience of design, build, and test processes for mechanical systems
  • Proficient in 3D CAD modeling and drafting with advanced knowledge of GD&T. Previous experience with Autodesk Inventor preferred.
  • Proficient in FEA, including experience with non-linear materials. Previous experience with ANSYS preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of Six Sigma methodologies and ability to apply them in the engineering process.
  • Strong understanding of aerodynamics with the ability to derive loads analysis from a first principles perspective.
  • Heavy machinery experience highly preferred, especially in the areas of drive systems, cranes, electronically actuated equipment, hydraulic driven equipment may suffice as relevant background.
  • Worked with and familiar with mechanical equipment that is highly integrated with actuators, sensors, controls logic. Remote operated heavy equipment or heavy robotics is a plus.
  • A "Startup Attitude": quick learner, passionate, nimble, and adaptable - you're not afraid to chase things down and get creative when the answer is not obvious
