Department Overview

The Gas Technical Document Management team (Gas TDM) is part of the Standards Engineering department, supporting the gas organization within PG&E. Gas TDM has a critical role in supporting the development and maintenance of effective gas manuals, standards, procedures, and bulletins that enable PG&E to meet or exceed compliance with all applicable codes and regulations, and ensure public and employee safety.

Position Summary

The Technical Writer collaborates with Gas Operations and Gas Engineering personnel in writing, updating, and maintaining gas guidance documents, internal business processes, and other documentation. The role within this department requires an individual to have the ability to work and communicate effectively and demonstrate by personal action a 100% commitment to public and employee safety.

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory (San Ramon).

Position Duties (may include but are not limited to)-

Policy and Procedures Development and Management:
  • Collaborates with standards engineers, gas organization subject matter experts, and technical document management colleagues to develop documents that are clear, concise, easy to follow, grammatically correct, technically accurate, compliant with PG&E document writing requirements, and in accordance with state and federal documentation regulations.
  • Edits existing PG&E documentation as needed, in the same collaborative manner described above.
  • Completes document editing and development within established time frames.
  • Translates complex technical issues into documentation that is easy to understand and use for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Uses command of written communication and careful attention to detail to proofread and edit large documents quickly and meticulously.

Deliverables:
  • Formats gas guidance documents to standard specifications.
  • Writes and formats large-scale content in Word, creating indexes, tables of contents, links between sections, manual pagination, and so forth.
  • Performs image modification such as resizing, cropping, importing images into documents, and adding basic markup (such as adding an arrow or box to draw attention to a specific part of an image).
  • Creates other documents and materials as needed for specific projects, potentially including items such as Visio flowcharts, Excel tables, and fillable PDF forms.
  • Tracks status of work on various projects via team SharePoint list.

Project Management:
  • Supports gas guidance document publication process and resolves issues.
  • Through careful review, helps ensure the technical accuracy, quality, and business compliance of final documents.

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.

A reasonable salary range is:

Bay Area Minimum:$78,000

Bay Area Maximum:$116,000

This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E's discretionary incentive compensation programs.

Qualifications-

Minimum:
  • BA/BS in English, Technical Writing, or related field or equivalent work experience
  • Two years of related work experience


Desired:
  • Strong ability in Microsoft Word; functional ability in (or ability to learn) a variety of document management-related tools, such as Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Visio; Adobe Acrobat and Photoshop; TechSmith SnagIt, and AutoCAD
  • Familiarity with PG&E gas operations and engineering.
  • Experience in developing technical specifications and documentation
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced team environment
  • Detail oriented - must be able to pay acute attention to detail
  • Ability to translate ideas into finished products
  • Ability to adapt quickly
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • A team player who places a high premium on client service and satisfaction
  • Ability to work with a high degree of integrity both independently and as part of a team
