The Innovation team is seeking a Full-Stack Developer, Innovation to join our dynamic, multi-disciplinary team. This role will focus on designing, developing, and optimizing backend and frontend pipelines and workflows that enable real-time and batch data access, collection, processing, management, integration with business systems, and user-centric single-pane-of-glass visualizations within the vessel digital twin platform. The selected candidate will play a key role in ongoing initiatives, including API-driven microservice designs, developments, and optimizations, UI/UX data visualization designs and implementations for providing reliable and efficient operational and analytical functionalities of modules in the Digital Ship platform. This permanent position is part of the Seaspan Innovation team at Vancouver Shipyards, offering exposure to and participation in Innovation and Business Development strategies through government-related projects for the Canadian Coast Guard, Navy, and other marine industry partners.

Note: This position qualifies for an optional hybrid work schedule after 90 days of onsite work and onboarding. Employee will be subject to the terms of the Flexible Work Policy Agreement.

What you'll do
  • Design, implement, and optimize scalable REST API-driven backend server-side logic pipelines and workflows, ensuring reliable, efficient, and secure data flow across platform modules to support the operational and analytical capabilities of Digital Ship.
  • Translate UI/UX design concepts into functional applications, ensuring consistency in application layouts, visual elements, and user interactions while optimizing user accessibility and usability.
  • Develop, integrate, and maintain dashboards and data visualization components, ensuring real-time insights, KPI tracking, and seamless interactions between the backend Digital Ship Data Hub's data processing, storage, and management layers and the user-facing web application implementations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the smooth integration and reliable operation of REST API microservices and machine learning pipelines within the overall architecture.
  • Document the provisioning, base configuration, and troubleshooting of backend and frontend pipeline instances and workflows to ensure operational efficiency, knowledge sharing, and future scalability for Digital Ship Twin platform extensions.

What you'll bring
  • A bachelor's degree in STEM disciplines relevant to software development, with 4+ years' experience, specializing in building and optimizing scalable backend and frontend pipelines.
  • Strong foundational knowledge and hands-on experience in developing, extending, and optimizing REST API microservices using JavaScript (Node.js) and Python for real-time and batch data streaming.
  • Proficiency in ETL pipeline development for retrieving, processing, and storing structured and unstructured data, ensuring optimized API response times and seamless integration with fleet-level data views, drill-in vessel screens, anomaly detection, sensor health monitoring, and reporting functionalities.
  • Demonstrated experience in frontend development with React.js to prepare component-driven architecture for a smooth, scalable, and dynamic user experience.
  • Deep understanding of UI/UX principles and hands-on experience with wireframes, app layouts, image/icon integration, and color palettes, translating design mockups into responsive, interactive front-end applications using Tailwind CSS, Styled Components, and CSS Modules.
  • Experience working in Agile environments with Scrum methodologies, participating in sprint planning, daily stand-ups, code reviews, and collaborative development processes to drive continuous improvements in software quality and delivery efficiency.

The estimated salary for this position is $82,700 - $99,200. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate's skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company's sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
