Position Summary:

The Research Services Operations Manager oversees the administration of the Library, assisting the Director with staffing, budget, resource development and other activities. The Manager serves as the administrator for the department's operational systems, customized current awareness services, and Intranet sites, defining the strategy for these products and managing the implementation, upgrades, support and training. The Manager works collaboratively with the Innovation and KM teams, Technology Services, IT Applications and Development, Practice Management and Business Development and Communications to deliver legal research and business intelligence support. The Manager develops strong relationships with attorneys and other key stakeholders, and continually solicits and integrates feedback to improve services and meet the evolving information needs of the Firm. The Manager follows and shares developments in information content and technology to facilitate access and adoption of leading research resources and tools. The Manager actively participates in professional associations and networks serving the legal industry.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Director with personnel, budget, collection development, and special projects
  • Assume overall operational responsibility for the department in the Director's absence
  • Manage the administration and support of the department's contract, serials, database and request management systems; the online catalog; and current awareness platforms
  • Review and develop processes and procedures to maximize departmental efficiency
  • Manage the creation and maintenance of the department's Intranet content
  • Assist the Digital Resources and Research Services managers with the evaluation and analysis of new products and/or features, including implementation, communication, and training
  • Use data-driven insights to inform strategic decisions including tracking and reporting on key performance indicators to facilitate ROI
  • Conduct regular interviews with practice and business leaders to identify new research and intelligence needs
  • Collaborate with the department managers, KM Counsel, and Practice Group management to increase awareness, training and adoption of new and existing resources
  • Stay current with industry and research product developments through active involvement in professional associations, continuing education, and peer firm contacts
  • Monitor competitors' activities and provide updates on market positioning

Qualifications:
  • M.L.S/M.L.I.S. from an ALA accredited program; JD preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years management and legal research experience and instruction in a law library
  • Experience leading and mentoring diverse teams, embracing change, and fostering an innovation culture
  • Substantive knowledge of transactional, litigation and business intelligence research tools and methodologies
  • Proficiency with research platforms and business applications in a law firm or corporate law department
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and conduct training programs and materials for individuals and groups with various levels of experience
  • Outstanding oral, written and presentation skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact and effectively collaborate with a diverse range of professionals
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills, with a proven track record in strategic planning and execution
  • Strong product management skills with experience implementing and maintaining library systems
  • Keen interest in automation and technology to improve efficiency through process improvements
  • Highly motivated self-starter with the drive to initiate and follow through on projects to completion
  • Ability to prioritize and manage competing deadlines effectively
  • Critical thinker and collaborative problem-solver
  • Passionate commitment to professional development and continuous learning
  • Experience with machine learning and/or artificial intelligence technologies is preferred


The actual salary offered will be based on a number of factors including but not limited to the qualifications of the applicant, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.

New York Salary Range

$125,000-$160,000 USD
