- Gathers, analyzes, interprets, acts upon and disseminates pertinent unit operations data.
- Initiates and justifies new projects, additional monitoring and other improvements to the unit.
- Develops project scope for improvement projects.
- Applies intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields.
- Makes decisions independently on engineering problems and methods, and represents the organization in meetings to resolve important questions and to plan and coordinate work.
- Requires the use of advanced techniques and the modification and extension of theories, precepts and practices of the field and related sciences and disciplines.
- Consults with supervisor concerning unusual problems and developments.
- Carries out complex or novel assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures.
- Develops and evaluates plans and criteria for a variety of projects and activities to be carried out by others.
- Assesses the feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering evaluation tests, products, or equipment when necessary data are insufficient or confirmation by testing is advisable.
- Performs as a staff advisor and consultant as to a technical specialty, a type of facility or equipment, or a program function.
- Understands the detail refinery flows, H & M balances, feeds, distillation processes and products.
- Completes conceptual process studies/evaluations and determines the economic feasibility.
- Completes process designs for proposed projects; prepares PFD's, H & M balance and P&ID's.
- Prepares DSP's, business cases and assists in AFE preparation.
- Directs and supervises engineering consultants and contractors on major project process engineering development.
- Uses process simulation software to evaluate complex problems and size/rate equipment.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's or higher level degree in Chemical Engineering required
- 8 years of process engineering experience in a petroleum refinery required.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Able and willing to work on-site, in-person at the Valero Texas City Refinery, required.
- Advanced degree preferred.
