General Summary:
The Director of Professional Development & Education is responsible for leading the organization's professional and career development strategies and implementation. This role focuses on analyzing organizational needs for development, aligning L&D activities with organizational strategy, developing the L&D strategy, and ensuring budget to execute the plans. Reporting to the Senior Director of Organizational Effectiveness, this role leads and develops a team of consultants, program managers, and learning technology analysts to execute organization-wide education and development initiatives, with close coordination with clinical education leadership.

Essential Job Functions:
Area Specific Job Accountabilities:
Implement Training Strategy and Plans
- Assesses company-wide training and developmental needs to drive training initiatives and identifies and arranges suitable training solutions for the workforce.
- Create, monitor, plan and implement all forward-thinking training programs for salaried and hourly staff across the workforce.
- Centralize training programs for Lurie Children's locations, identifying specific training needed and implementing them for the changing needs of the workforce.
- Partner with the Senior Director of Organizational Effectiveness to develop of Lurie Children's training strategy, working with department and division leadership teams, corporate teams and partners to prioritize training initiatives. Will lead the implementation of the training plan.
- Assesses organizational learning needs, reviews performance improvement data, customer feedback, and risk management data to develop and prioritize hospital-wide educational programs.
- Track and report metrics.
Learning Technology
- Partners with stakeholders, partners, and team to evaluate and leverage learning technologies to meet the organizational needs.
- Implement, maintain, and enhance approved learning technologies (i.e. Workday Learning).
Program management (Workforce Development Programs)
- Oversees programs to support our partnerships to fully focus on workforce development (i.e. Westside United, colleges, universities, etc.).
- Oversees program management, including design, implementation, and evaluation of professional development programs across the workforce.
- Evaluates educational programs for learner satisfaction, learning outcomes, improved job performance, and return on investment.
- Supports program standards with our stakeholders and partners.
- Promotes career and professional development opportunities through education, mentoring, and research activities.
- Provides leadership and consultation for workforce development strategies.
- Provides consultation to staff and leaders on educational design, implementation, and evaluation.
- Oversees the coordination, integration, and implementation of hospital educational activities.
- Develops orientation, educational programs, and record systems to meet Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare organization standards and other regulatory requirements.
- Creates and facilitates interdisciplinary learning opportunities and systems in partnership with stakeholders.
Operations
- Partner closely with leaders across the people function
- Oversee programs that support being a center of excellence
- Responsible for the overseeing the selection, design and editing of educational materials focusing on our mission and values, standard operational procedures, and company policies.
- Provide regular audits of management and hourly staff members for required certifications and knowledge retention.
- Conducts follow-up studies of all completed training to evaluate and measure results. Works with Operations and Team Leaders to ensure that services provided to customers are of the required quality.
- Develops and implements systems to ensure information flow.
- Promotes effective communication within and among departments.
- Provides systems for dissemination of information to staff members.
- Markets educational opportunities to employees and leaders. E.g., hospital calendar and catalogue of educational program offerings.
- Effectively leads and manages people resources.
- Selects, directs, develops, evaluates, and when necessary, disciplines staff.
- Creates an environment that encourages retention and development of staff.
- Provides systems and leadership for team members to fulfill their job requirements
- Incorporates performance management, coaching, best practices, and continuous improvement strategies to drive service and operation excellence.
- Develops and achieves team goals and objectives utilizing a participatory approach. Directs and evaluates the process toward goal achievement. Participates in strategic planning for the department.
- Manages hospital resources in a cost-effective manner.
- Manages all resources effectively.
- Selects and purchases materials for staff development and training programs.
- Develops and implements cost-effective educational programs.
- Conducts return on investment analysis on selected hospital educational programs.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- The authority to hire, separate, promote, demote, recommend merit increases, write and administer performance evaluations.
- Other job functions as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Must have excellent communication, interpersonal, facilitation, project management, influencing and presentation skills.
- Work experience as a Training Director, Training Manager, or similar role. Experience in the leadership of teams required.
- Related bachelor's college degree and/or industry certification. Master's preferred. Years of Relevant Experience - Minimum 5 years leading a training or education team in a corporate setting. Hospital education experience preferred.
- Strong consulting and influencing skills; ability to think strategically.
- Experience / demonstrated ability to mentor individuals and teams.
- Proficient in all MS Office programs
