Summary
Technical Specialist 1 assists in designing, developing, implementing, and analyzing technical systems and facilities for MTA C&D. This role performs routine technical design tasks with standard techniques. Assists more senior technical specialists in preparing plans, designs, computation methods, and reports.
Responsibilities
Technical Specialist 1 assists in designing, developing, implementing, and analyzing technical systems and facilities for MTA C&D. This role performs routine technical design tasks with standard techniques. Assists more senior technical specialists in preparing plans, designs, computation methods, and reports.
Performs technical tasks by developing a working knowledge of applicable design criteria, regulatory requirements, standards and processes.
Provides technical support on multiple design projects, including analyzing and documenting critical design elements.
Provides technical field support for system/equipment installation and related project construction.
Coordinates and communicates with team members to determine requirements and incorporate feedback.
Coordinates with Agency Owners, designers, contractors, outside consultants, and other government agencies.
Education and Experience
Bachelor of Science degree in an appropriate technical field, Engineering Technology/Engineering Science or an equivalent subject.
Must have a minimum of four (4) years of related experience.
Competencies:
Must be capable of working on multiple projects in a dynamic, fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Analytical ability, pro-active attitude, willingness to learn and an ability to think "outside the box" when required.
A general understanding and use of Computer Assisted Design Software (AutoCAD or MicroStation), Project Management Software (A-Site, ProjectWise) and Microsoft Office is required.
Working academic or field knowledge of relevant industry standards, Code requirements, applicable technical considerations/calculations, installation practices and/or commissioning related to one or more of the following systems or areas:
Access control CCTV Public Address/Visual Messaging Two-way communications systems Fire alarm Automated Building Controls UPS Wireless Networks Network - Any one of the following network technologies: DWDM, ROADM, SONET, MPLS, Ethernet, COE, TCP/IP, SDN.
The ability to read electrical/control schematics and identify branch/feeder system requirements is a plus.
