Job Description:
- Oversee medical care provided to residents by planning, coordinating, and directing the delivery of medical services.
- Establish policies and procedures to ensure consistency with required standards for care facilities for individuals with intellectual disabilities.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members, including psychology, psychiatry, case managers, direct care staff, nursing staff, and family/guardians, to address health and safety issues.
- Serve as the primary care physician by conducting physicals, evaluating and diagnosing medical concerns, monitoring treatment and medication reactions, writing prescriptions and medical orders, and completing documentation for designated individuals at the facilities.
- Work closely with Certified Nurse Practitioners and consult with facility committees such as admission/discharge, unusual incidents, infection control, emergency preparedness, medication review, and human rights.
- Direct systems for children with special health care needs and all medical policies related to their diagnosis and treatment.
- Act as the medical director for infectious disease control, assist in defining parameters for the surveillance of diseases, and oversee the development and evaluation of data on the spread of infectious diseases.
- Supervise lower-level medical and medical support personnel, health/human services program administrators, and other healthcare support staff.
- Formulate medical policy on behalf of the agency director and direct its implementation.
- Provide direct medical or psychiatric care or clinical laboratory services in complex cases and assist in training and demonstration purposes.
- Coordinate public health problems that involve multiple areas and act as a medical supervisor during investigations of disease outbreaks or other medical conditions.
- Provide medical consultation to all programs in the division of child and family health services, establish program policies and standards of care, and participate in comprehensive planning of statewide services for women, infants, and children.
- Lead the implementation and development of public health policy.
