We are looking for a teammate, a problem solver, someone who is persistent, passionate, and loves to see projects to completion. As the Hardware Lab Manager, you will join our Hardware Engineering team as the lead for our engineering technicians. Your team will support engineering development by assembling, repairing, maintaining, and upgrading medical diagnostic devices. Goals
90 Day
  • Complete hardware updates to the fleet of prototype Pattern diagnostic devices
  • Support Engineering with device verification testing through active participation on testing and by coordinating technician activities
  • Manage the allocation of Pattern diagnostic devices across the organization
6 month
  • Plan and manage technician resources for supporting clinical trials and device verification testing
  • Manage deployment of Pattern diagnostic devices to clinical sites (internal and external)
How You Will Contribute
  • Lead a team of 2-3 R&D engineering technicians instilling best practices related to engineering tests, system documentation, and electromechanical device maintenance
  • Manage diagnostic device bring-up, fleet maintenance for both internal and external customers, and device documentation
  • Coordinate and execute engineering tests in support of engineering team
  • Manage lab equipment including oscilloscopes, multimeters, mechanical gauges, and custom test fixtures
  • Track and communicate system assembly and operational issues to engineers and collaborate with the team to drive the solution process
  • Assist engineers with development of test specifications, manufacturing instructions, and standard operating procedures
  • Manage procurement and tracking of lab inventory
  • Promote a safe and clean work environment

  • Are a self-starter with a desire to build products that help improve patient outcomes
  • Are highly skilled in the operation, maintenance, and construction of electromechanical or robotic systems
  • Troubleshoot problems systematically and methodically, basing decisions on evidence
  • Have strong time and project management skills
  • Have strong communication skills for dealing with project and priority conflicts
  • Can interpret documentation including assembly drawings, CAD models, cable drawings, electrical schematics, and BOMs to execute assembly, repair, and procurement tasks
  • Are highly proficient in the use of basic hand and bench tools, multimeters, soldering and de-soldering equipment, calipers, and drill presses
  • Have experience with basic shop chemicals and understand the use of corresponding Personal Protection Equipment (PPE)
  • Are familiar with software tools for tracking test results, maintenance activities, and project tasks
  • Are willing to occasionally travel to travel to customer/clinical sites to support install and maintenance of diagnostic device
Desired Education and Experience
  • Associate's degree in Applied Science, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology or similar and/or Certificate in Technical trade
  • 10+ years total experience in electromechanical assembly-related technical trade
  • 2+ years of direct management of technicians
  • Proficient in Excel
  • Experience with project management software (Jira, Azure DevOps, Trello, etc.)
Skills or Attributes Considered a Plus:
  • B.S. in a technical field
  • Familiarity with Linux
  • Familiarity with Python
  • Can use standard machine shop equipment such as mills, lathes, surface plates, and dial indicators
  • Soldering and PCBA and harness rework
  • Experience with oscilloscopes, signal generators, and specialized test equipment
  • Have worked on benchtop biotech or life science research instruments
